From the ever-reliable wikipedia... :)
He tells the Doctor and Martha that it's a matter of vanity, because he "used to be a poster boy when [he] was a kid in the Boeshane Peninsula", as "the first one ever to be signed up for the Time Agency ... the Face of Boe, they called me."

The explanation just didn't gel with me.

oh and some other weird notes I found....

Yana recalls that he was found as a child "on the coast of the Silver Devastation." The Silver Devastation was previously mentioned in the 2005 episode The End of the World, in which the steward of Platform One introduces the Face of Boe as "our friend from the Silver Devastation."

Mister Saxon is an anagram of Master no. six.

I forgot all about the 13th doctor!

The old I'm your evil future self bit.

He was about to run out of regenerations and was trying to steal one right?

Was that during Doctor #6 or #7.

Remember I hvent seen an original episode in almost 20 years!

BTW, I'm running out of DVDs to re-watch, and I'm down to my Doctor Whos (all Tom Baker).
To re-watch, I've got: "Robot", "The Ribos Operation", "The Stones of Blood", "The Leisure Hive", "The Robots of Death", "The Pirate Planet", "Pyramids of Mars", "Logopolis", and "The Androids of Tara". "Ribos" and "Leisure Hive" are a bit slow, I remember, but I like the others a lot. (Hope I don't get too scared by the cardboard alligator in "Ribos". 8O 'Twill be a popcorn-throwing moment, to be sure.)

Did anyone ever find out exactly why Eccleston left?

Here's the confused wiki version of events:

wikipedia wrote:
On 30 March 2005, the BBC released a statement, ostensibly from Eccleston, saying that he had decided to leave the role after just one season, because he feared becoming typecast. On 4 April, the BBC revealed that Eccleston's "statement" was falsely attributed and released without his consent. The BBC admitted that they had broken an agreement made in January not to disclose publicly that he only intended to do one season. The statement had been made after journalists made queries to the press office.

On 11 June 2005, during a BBC radio interview, when asked if he had enjoyed working on Doctor Who, Eccleston responded by saying, "Mixed, but that's a long story." Eccleston's reasons for leaving the role continue to be debated in Britain's newspapers: on 4 October 2005 Alan Davies told The Daily Telegraph that Eccleston had been "overworked" by the BBC, and had left the role because he was "exhausted". Ten days later, Eccleston told The Daily Mirror this was not true, and expressed some irritation at Davies for his comments.

What was the story on why Colin Baker left?

I remember when he signed on he said he wanted to beat out Tom Bakers record for most seasons.

Back when I was watching, EVERY season was rumored to be the last. What finally did the show in?

Sure I could go look it up but then that would take away your joy of teling me.

Christopher Eccleston was only ever going to do one season. He was intended to bring back the Doctor to a modern audience without the goofiness.

David Tennant was actually considered for 9th Doctor but the production team never contacted him. The thought he was perfect except that he wasn't too well known and that he would be better as the quirky replacement. Apparently they didn't even interview him.

Colin Baker was sacked at the request of BBC Controller Michael Grade. The stories for his next season were novelised and IMHO they wouldn't have been great ones anyway. Colin was so upset about being sacked that he refused to do the regeneration story - he would have done an entire story. After being sacked, Colin created another character, "The Stranger" who travelled with Nichola Bryant (Peri) and was pretty Dr Who like.

There were quite a few Virgin Novels set after Trial and before Sylvester McCoy's first adventure. It's generally considered canon that the sixth Doctor travelled for a while with a shape-shifting penguin called Frobisher.

as a side note i had a delivery job when i used to live in maidstone , i once delivered a parcel to tom baker, the one and only time in my entire life that i was star struck lol, anyway he seemed very nice,

as for the face of bo, when i saw that episode i thught it was very strange, it was just dropped in at the very end and it just seemed so incongruent but then how does anyone get any name really lol, the worst thing was to see the doctor as a three foot wierd, thing in a cage, that was awful, but when he became himself again it was great i love the way they arranged for everyone to have the same thought on the same day, proves that thought is powerful lol

I remember my first auotographed picture in the mailcame from Tom Baker. I was facinated at the stamps. The idea this came from another country.
I later wrote many of the doctors and companions and they all sent free pictures. Drs 3,4,5,6 Sarah Jane, the Master .I would usually "trade " them and include a signed school picture of myself.
I even wrote to Tom Baker again and included a photo I had bought of him in costume but both times he signed the picture on the back.
US conventions were small and rare, especially in my city. Since I was a member of the local fanclub I helped set up and got to talk to the guests ahead of time. I remember sitting in a convention hall with the other voulenteers before the show and a woman came over and started talking to us and in a moment I realized it was Leela!
A year later the Doctor Who trailer came. It was a cargo trailer filled with original props from the show. Nissa was there that time.

I wonder if stars do the by mail thing anymore. I still need Dr #7 and would also love Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes.

I'm sure the stars of the old show still do the autograph thing. After all, people are always open to flattery aren't they?

Any whovians out there have Slyvester McKoys address?

I've gotten autographs from celebrities at conventions but its always been alot of fun writing them directly.

I've gotten a few I'm sure I could'nt have otherwise. Gene Roddenberry, Vincent Price and Roddy Mcdowell.

( Also I was confused when I opened McDowells picture, he did'nt have his Ape make up on!)

who is he and how old are you, who was the first Doctor you saw( how old) and are you male or female?
Its a survey kinda thing . . . I got a theory.

Tom Baker, the Fourth Doctor, is my favorite by far, and the first one I saw (at age 11); Peter Davison, the Fifth Doctor, is a distant second. I am 34/F.
