Agreed. I'm all for making fun of ourselves, but there should be some basis in truth.

Besides, "NT Joe" has some traits that I have or like. "NT Tracey", not so much.

Basically what I am trying to say is that I found NeantHumain incredibly rude, tactless, and offensive. By looking at some recent posts on this thread, I don't seem to be in the minority.

A good chunk—maybe not the majority—of NTs around my age (20) act like a less extreme version of NT Joe. NT Joe is supposed to be the NT of the NT: the kind who watches MTV and follows its trends. Maybe there are fewer NT Joes and NT Traceys than I think there are because the NT Joes and NT Traceys of the world are just the loudest NTs.

NeantHumain, do you have any friends or acquaintances who are NT? Everyone I know is NT (I'm talking about hundreds of people). Not one is like 'NT Joe'. 'NT Joe' is not the majority!

Some people haven't got the intelligence to recognise satire. All you can do is ignore them and stick to entertaining the intellegent members.

I agree that the NT Joes/NT Traceys in that age group are definitely prominent. I can't guess as to if they are the majority or not, but they certain draw lots of attention to themselves.

When I was a freshman/sophomore in college, most of my classmates (at least the ones loud enough to get my attention) were like that. They threw in a few stories about drinking 'til you puke and going to parties here and there, too. I even had one of them tell me I should smoke to meet people and that it wasn't "normal" to deliberately choose a single dorm

That kind of stuff died down around the time I became a senior. Now that I've been out of college and working for a year, that type of behavior is nearly nonexistent. It could be because I'm in IT, I don't know.

maybe it's just a cultural thing and we are all arguing about nothing. all i can say is that, in the location that i live, NT joe / tracy represents the majority of the people i encounter in my daily life. perhaps exaggerated for comedy effect, but in some cases it is an accurate parody (sadly).

there are plenty of things to feel sad about in this world so i think it's important to see the funny side- when possible.

What occurs to me is that this kind of treatment of NTs is like painting a stick figure woman and calling it an accurate representation of the Mona Lisa. You could call it a stereotype, but it's not even good enough for that. NT-Joe is an over-the-top representation of the thinnest outer shell of some people. It shines no light on their inner workings; only what is immediately apparent to an outside observer.

If you alienate yourself and only look at NTs with jealousy and hate, then yeah, this thread is what you'll come up with. But if you're like me, and most of the people you've ever known have been neurotypical, you can see how sophomoric and offensive it is. NTs grasp social customs and use this knowledge. If you can't do it, that's still no reason to dehumanize them behind their backs.

Hey, I've actually talked to some people who fit the NT Joe/NT Tracey stereotype, and most of them aren't that bad. It's still funny to have the NT Joe/NT Tracey stereotype, though.

Some people are offended too easily. I actually like NT Joe (i work out and laugh at the childish internet sites etc) and would most probably have fun and sleep with NT Tracy, (though i would be cold and distant afterwards wondering why some girls have no self-respect) and i still find it funny so dont see the problem.

If you dont like the thread then dont read it. Im posting this as someone who wont go near the sites that is genuinely deluded into believing aspie superiority and hateful against all NT's but i dont think this is like that atall.

I think it's kinda funny, but very generalising.

I mean, I bleech my hair, text message alot and go to shopping malls. Hell, I LOVE shopping.

I can see where the jokes' coming from, and an not going to go on an angry rampage for some sh*t that doesn't even matter, but you seem to be describing a high school dropout, not NT's in general.

It seems that some of you are being over-analytical of a simple joke.

I'm not offended. In fact I think the problem with the "NT Joe" character is that he's too, well, non-offensive. Either that or I'm just not annoyed as easily by certain so-called NT traits as other people are. Yeah, that's probably it.

And isn't it in the nature of us Aspies to be over-analytical? Hmm...there's an idea for AS Bob.

tom, are you saying that I'm stupid? If you are, now it is personal! I understand satire perfectly well. I just don't think perpetuating false stereotypes (when quite a lot of people at WP already strongly dislike NTs) is funny.
