It is amoral if the other people are using their life, energy, time or property to impose on the life, energy time or property of yet other people.

A very simple rule, simplistic even. To be asked a moral question and to simply reply that it is none of your business is the essence of amorality. It is also dodging the question as to whether his definition of what is his matches up with your definition of what is his.

What is amoral about not imposing on the life, energy, time and property of other people?

so you support the Chinese claming Tibet as their property and opressing the Tibetan people? that's your morality?

I gave it no thought since it was no relevant to my existence. I still give it no thought. What does the situation in Tibet have to do with me and mine? Is there a danger to me, my family and my countrymen in China's treatment of Tibet?

The strong have been eating the weak since God invented dirt.

IIRC, you're Jewish right? that's a very disturbing motto for someone who not only is Jewish, but also autistic...

I was brought up Jewish. I keep the Commandments to the extent that I do not steal, I do not shed blood (except in self defense) and I do not worship false gods. There is nothing in the 613 commandments that says we have to feel sorry for people who have troubles.

And I am as Aspie not an Autie.

I think she meant that Jews and autistics are/have been subjected to persecution, therefore it would be prudent for you to have some level of sympathy for others.

I doubt you would even exist if the world stayed completely indifferent to the Holocaust and the nazi rule in Europe. you seem to support indifference to the oppresion of minorities yet you belong to one yourself. why should anyone have cared about your people if in your opinion we shouldn't care about the same thing happening to others?

How many people are there in China? We can all agree China's treatment of Tibet's immoral but what can be done about it? Whoever wants to invade China, do so without the US. China has got us outnumbered, plus they are on their way to becoming the most powerful nation the earth has ever known. It's just a matter of time.

it's not middle ages, nobody's talking about invading China (at least not in this thread  )

I think that there are other ways of putting pressure on countries- diplomatic, economic etc. unfortunately everyone keeps sucking up to the Chinese, which is hypocritical, especially of the US.

I agree. The other countries are too chicken to stand up to the Chinese, so they can get away with all the atrocities they want. Kosovo is recognised (by some countries) as independant, while Tibet is not, because the world is not terrified of the Serbs the way they are of the Chinese.

China have cheap products, but nobody is holding a gun to anyone's head saying "Buy Chinese products!" are they? If the West would put their money where their mouth is and stop supporting China financially, the Chinese wouldn't be able to boss everyone about like they are.

Why indeed? The Allies did not fight Germany to help the Jews. They fought to save Britain and to keep the Nazis from taking over Europe.

No bombing missions were ever dispatched to stop the trains carrying victims to the death camps. Not once. Not ever.

While Germany was being pounded to sh*t by the air-raids the gas the chambers and the furnaces were going full blast. And the trains kept taking their cargo to the camps to be killed.

I do not expect anyone to care about me or mine. It is enough that I care about me and mine.

And you, you look out for your own welfare. It is the surest bet you have.

I would, but I'm supposed to be doing my history homework right now. Can you give me the gist of it?

I admit I have a lot of respect for China who's had their share of hardships. Maybe the US doesn't get involved because if something were to happen close to here we wouldn't want the Chinese to meddle in ours? I don't know if we could put economic pressure on them without it meaning disaster for millions of Chinese since it's such a populous country. It has a lot of culture too.

I don't think we could put the economic pressure on China without putting the economic pressure on ourselves. Enter: creepy international codependence: 21st century style.
