My therapist sent me this video to use in an emotional traumatic crisis. It is emotional "first aid." I am sharing it because it has really helped me.

Well frek
So my mom gets ssi and gets $805
I get ssdi and get $805
Are bills are same

But food stamps gives her 190 while I’ll only get 16-50
They told me snap counts ssi different then ssdi. But I can’t find anything about it on google. And snap is income based. So why would the 805 from ssdi be treated differently is there some place I can go to buy food where they be like oh you get it from ssdi, ssdi money is worth $2 for every $1 here.

16-50? A range of $16-50? Or $16.50? Or $165?

Seems weird that they would count ssi and ssdi income differently if it’s income based.

At least groceries cost less where you are than where I am, so that’s a slight bonus in purchasing power. But that’s still most certainly not a large budget for food.

Regardless, let’s just assume that those are the income & budget figures you have to work with and no amount of research or communicating with government agencies is going to increase that. With those assumptions, are you at least crunching numbers to ensure you can pay all bills AND optimize food purchases with the budget you have? If this is something you could use help with, I’m sure there are several people here who wouldn’t mind assisting with some basic accounting and budgets as well as recommendations for maximizing the amount of nutrition you can purchase with the funds you have. That way you’ll at least have a plan to work from that would ensure you can stay alive & reasonably healthy by making every penny count.

It depends on his monthly income, I believe.

Doing the math based on $50, it's likely about $1.60 / day. He started April late through, so he possibly gets $16 for April ?

Just my guess.

I know nothing is certain about this virus, but on the news at one point they stated that one thing you know from it is that you lose your sense of smell and taste even if you get no other symptoms.

Is that true?

To be fair, it was a girl being interviewed (who had had it) saying this so she might have been speaking only about herself, not broadly, and just not using the correct sort of phrasing to make it clear.

I never lost my sense of taste or smell. I probably had a mild case. I feel like most people don’t have that symptom.

My nephew lost his smell and taste. Amity said she did, too.

I was asked whether I lost my sense of taste when I was examined by a doctor.

He said it’s fixed at $805, so how can the income dependent food stamp benefit be variable? :?

Regardless, assuming no benefits agency is going to give him any more money I think it’d be wise for sly to draw up a budget based on what funds he knows he has to work with & also a grocery budget designer to optimize nutrition & economize purchases. It may involve buying one item in bulk this pay period, basics and a different item the next, so that bit by bit he’s able to stock up on some staples at lower prices by volume vs only buying small amounts of every item at each purchase.

Because he works in a store, and his hours vary somewhat.

That’s not what he just posted. Does he still work there at all? He just posted and said his income is identical to his mother's fixed income of $805 but his food stamp benefits are far lower and variable.

Unless he hasn’t posted all of the relevant information. Like, does he still also have other income? Or is food stamp amount based on income earned during x time frame in the past?

I’m just going based on what he posted.

He was talking about his range over the past few months, I believe.

He’s been furloughed for about two weeks now. He still got income from his job until this week, I believe.
