What is your first name? Alex

Age: 32

Location: East Coast, New England

Hobbies and Interests: “Physical sciences”, probability, game theory.

Why are you here? Since quitting buprenorphine (sublocade), I randomly tried 12-step groups even though I used to hate them and never went because I was in withdrawal at that point for 3 months straight, and didn't know what to really do. I'm even in professional outpatient programs after avoiding them for years, and got a case manager. (the recovery industry can be f****d up, especially for women.) Funnily enough, the recovery world is saturated by neurodivergence. I figure I can maybe share what I learned in these groups, that I'm guessing the majority of people here haven't seen, and it's helpful because I'm constantly around Neurodivergent people there, and I've learned the patterns.

When were you diagnosed?(skip if you don't have a disorder): Probably around 3 years old, had very noticeable physical symptoms like low muscle tone, couldn't speak well, ect. I still remember the physical therapy before I moved to my new house at four. My memory is of this rather empty warehouse looking place, that was styled similar to a discovery zone, with large mats, colorful designs on the wall (I remember the most a few large triangles on a yellowish wall) but it lacked crowds.

Favorite subjects: idk, I usually do not do the best in school, it's a very uncomfortable place for me, maybe I'll develop one when I go back.

Year/Grade: Some college… but I plan to go back... didn't get a good chance when I was 20, I was an opioid addict then, and it was chaotic. My parents I think enrolled me, I was on probation for heroin possession charges, and maybe they thought it would look good. Probation eventually dropped it, after I kept passing tests... but I was cheating them the whole time after previously being detained twice in jail for failing tests... which was a nightmare since it was more than a month of time, and they didn't give methadone, or Suboxone to inmates back then, so I had to do it cold. It was my only real brush with the legal system, I have a clean record since that was dropped.

Favorite music: Electronic, techno, psytrance, jam bands, old school rap.

Books: Greg Egan is fire. I had an amateur attempt at writing a book, which dealt with my views of survivalism, tied in with my views of the Social Darwinist nature of the human world, comparing it to the jungle of nature. I gotta finish it.

TV shows/Movies: Training day, Sopranos, the Wire. Definitely more too, depends on my mood.

Instrument: I can play keyboard a bit, I even have one, but I've been slacking practicing. Maybe I subconsciously see music the same way as in professional sports, a few make money, but most of them starve?

Do you like sports? I kinda like playing sports, especially with friends, pickleball is fun. Professional sports are pretty boring to me in general to watch, but I do see money in it. Idiots will gamble big on their favorite team, and I can see a profession being a bookie, reading the statistics, and exploiting it.

Family: 2 siblings, and my parents, who stayed together all this time.

Clothing: Usually whatever I can find. I remember driving two girls to New Bedford for something, and we randomly saw a church outreach giving away things, like clothes, hygiene essentials, food ect. Me and the other girl got redskins sweaters, mine's black, hers is red. My favorite clothes are psychedelic though, like tie-dye, I have a few Alex Grey shirts.

How did you find this website? I knew about from years ago, but I usually stay away from any forums.

Job: Not employed currently

Plans for the future? A normal enough life, I feel like I never had one. I've been on substances heavily since I was around 16 years old, only got off buprenorphine last September 2024, was on high dose Suboxone for a decade.

Any comments?
