Thread for mature aspies II
Thanks for the welcome, Postperson. Your vehicle is so cool and I especially love that color green. Do whippet-people also like greyhounds?
That Dino Cafe sounds like a place I don't even want to try to visit. 10-20 pages per day is too fast for me. I'd like to get to know people here but I am still trying to figure out the areas I like reading. Sometimes I'll get hung up on somebody's rant and before I know it I've lost 30 minutes of my life...
As for me, I'm an artist (obviously) - also a college drop-out my 4th year (Fine Arts Major) to get married to my 1st husband - the first(?) of many stupid decisions. I'm on my third marriage. I'm optomistic.
I also have a full time job that I like...I get to type on a computer all day long, I don't have to interact with many people, and I have my own office. I pop in here off and on during the day.
Whenever I read posts from those of you living in Australia, or London, for example...I wish so much that I could hear you speak. I try to imagine how you might sound.
I hope everyone has a good day.
Tracy
Hello all, maybe some know me but for those who dont...
43,female sort of,DXed this past fall and still working it out....(I am,I'm not, etc)I have attempted to jump into the frey at the cafe but dont feel......?they like me.Will see how this goes.I can be long winded just trying to make myself "understood" after confussing people for years and I apologise in advance for my very annoying habit of ....." " and ( )....I think it is a form of stimming, maybe just poor recall of English(Yes,it's supposed to be my first language,but...whays GW Bushs excuse?)Sorry,I know...no politics allowed.Keeps getting me in trouble.
I just got a job babysitting dogs at Petsmart....dogs good, people, not so much.A bit depressing making 9.75,at my age,but the stress level is low.
I thought should break my WP addiction to enjoy the weather(and get my apt cleaned...),this isnt a good start in my goal.I seem to need human interaction more then I ever suspected.

Yeah, i noticed one of your political bits over in the Dino thread; I get in trouble the same way.
New to WP, it's helping me deal with compromising/picking a job I can handle, balancing stress and money, etc. Hoping to get something tolerable soon.
I've come out of my cave a lot these past few days; the weather has been excellent here in New Jersey, and I'm realizing too, I need human interaction. Hope springs eternal - once in awhile one does make a good new friend.
Aylissa: sorry about your pain and operation; hope it helps.
Oh, and I find the term Post Whore to be highly amusing - I've seen the behavior, but never put quite that way.
Could it be? I do this too....lots of ... and (). It feels more like speaking that way...little pauses in speech or (addendums). I also use too many "quotes". I never imagined it could be annoying, so now I'm thinking I probably have been annoying people for a long, long, long time...
I'm bothered more by "ALL CAPS" posts, or the accidental "aLL cAPS", and run-on sentences with no punctuation like this see isnt this horrible its so offensive i almost cant type it and i will have to hurry up and post this before i erase what i just typed
Glad to see you here Krex. I like reading your posts.
Thanks....
I have been told that it annoys some people. You are right.I hear my voice in my head as I type and the " " and the ( ) and even the habit of...........is my vocal intonations and pauses in conversation............I tend to use " " when the word I am using is not "exactly" the term I mean,I believe in precise language and some words can have many meanings or limitations in it's meaning......( )are asides...doesnt recuire a totally new paragraph as it is related but some what of a tangent, kind of like a multiple personality whispering in my ear while reading over my shoulder....(oh,mention how when you were a kid,you did XYZ)
I think some people just have a hard time reading my posts because of this,as they interpret punctuation as it's ooriginal intent according to what they learned in school...thats my theory, anyway.I'm glad someone else understands it.... ![]()

I call your raspberry and double it...(I think this is a trick to lure me in,to be lambasted, ridiculed or ignored).I do still lurk there,I just feel shy about posting because I seem to either say things people dont relate to or piss someone off.I am thick skinned in RL but seem a bit sensitive in aspieland.

I have become totally bland now. I used to be trenchent and witty and sharper than an obsidian scalpel but now. .eh! I got so tired of fighting. And as people are beginning to understand, there is no winning when you win. It always pisses someone off.

Probably accidentally, like I did. I got lucky. I suffered in a job for 10 years where I had to pretend to be happy and like people, and I had to put up with constant interruptions - same kind of work I do now, but with an oppressive atmosphere. It was the kind of job that would put you in a bad mood before bedtime during the weekdays and ruin the second half of all of your Sundays. I think I nearly had a couple of nervous breakdowns (is there really such a thing?) In any case, I was burnt out. Then my job was "phased out"
I never have the right thing to say over there, either. I am either too serious or don't quite get what they are talking about. My attempts at humour are mostly just ignored. I didn't think it was possible to be self-consious on-line.

On-line is the only time I even attempt to socialize....the little I am out and about in RL,I could care less what any one thinks...this is one of the greatest advantages to getting"old" and not looking for a boyfriend....free to be indifferent.I have actually taken to wearing my PJs in public(trying to start a trend...lol)I find people are nicer to me when they see that I am confortable with myself
(but maybe they are just being nice because they think I am insane or ret*d?Either way,I let it work for me)
Here, there are actually a lot of people I like and respect,so if I dont feel interesting or intelligent based on the lack of responses to some thing I post....it hurts more.I know I dont respond to every post that I agree with or laugh with, because I dont have the time or dont know what to respond....but I still take it personal(sometimes)when it happens to me.....I am working on not taking it so personally,but....not easy, somedays.

I will look up at whomever I am talking to and say, no, I won't tell that story, I will just leave it at that, and walk away if I have to. . . I have talked the ear off of people so many times in my life I have finally learned when I have to back off. mostly.
because that reminds me of the time when . . .

Your writing is eminently quotable. I hope you're keeping notes.
I need to rant again. By the way, despite the incredible logistical and physical issues I'm going through, I'm feeling positive! Woo hoo! But I started my day thinking we were going to paint the ceiling, but NO, MS found a little water damage in the ceiling, so tore through it to investigate.
I now have a completely ripped out ceiling in the living room. We're talking multiple panels of new drywall on a cathedral ceiling, to be replaced. Sigh. I can't even tell you how frustrating this is, when I have a million things to do to get this house ready to go on the market so I can move in a month.
That's my day. Started out with intact ceilings, now there's a whole room without one. And where do we go from here? I"ll just keep working on the decluttering (goal is to throw out as much as possible) and cleaning. Fun.

This is a new communication medium/art form - I like it when people stretch and shape the language, have fun (and still make sense.) I read that translators had a hard time with Nietzsche cuz besides being so playful with meanings and new phrases, he'd use ellipses to make important points... not proper sentence structure.
Love that you quote R.D.Laing; he helped me through a difficult time or two.
! !! You're still way sharper than the average bear; scattered among that 200-page thread many of your posts were amazing. Penetrating insights, deep life lessons, a really wide range of experience; a wise soul. I was impressed many times.
Yes, me too - and you've given yourself the best answer, I think (I hope.)
