What if they never find a vaccine for COVID-19?

Vaccines take years to develop, and some diseases they have never found a vaccine for. Take the common cold for example. That's a type of coronavirus, but there's no cure for that at all. You've just got to let it run its course. Same with stomach flu. Viruses that spread from human to human very easily are the hardest to cure. It seems that this COVID-19 is going to turn out to be another unavoidable virus just like colds, flus, coughs and noroviruses.
So then what's going to happen? Humans may never be able to hug again. Large social gatherings will become permanently outlawed. Vulnerable people will have to stay isolated forever and may never work again. Strict social distancing will always be life from now on. All key workers (including myself) will be under pressure to keep working to avoid spread of the coronavirus, meaning we will be unable to take any paid holiday. Leisure, tourism, flights and holidays won't exist any more.
Life will just be dull. Will it become like this if they cannot find a cure?

The true, yet ugly answer is: Yes.
We entered a new era of humanity.

All I think is that there won't be such a thing as a free country any more, all because of some stupid virus that statistically 80% of people don't even get ill from.
Basically they're "saving lives" to live a life that isn't worth living.

We don't have "such a thing as a free country" anyway, we're controlled and investigated all the time, either by governments or by insurance companies, or ad scammers, or simply by nosy neighbors... or mafia, if you're unlucky. Thw world wasn't perfect in the 1990s, in spite of the pre-9-11 optimism I remember. The world wasn't perfect 40 years ago either, in spite of what some 60yos may believe. There is no imminent doom ahead of us, unless we create it ourselves.
Covid exposed various issues and vulnerabilities of current societes but that issues have already been there for years. Let's show some resilience and adaptability and do what the nature is all about: survive.
