For the same reason that religious folks shame atheists, and that religious folks of one sect shame religious folks of another sect, and so on.

I'd say as a Catholic who's been ridiculed on many an autistic forum that it goes both ways. Many of the atheists I've met will treat people like me like we're stupid just because we follow a centuries -old religion filled with hypocrites, without realizing there are good Christians who just plain fail at life even though they try their best because everyone sins.

That's what I'm getting at. Looking at the Bible, when we understand that it's a human product with human flaws it can teach us how people lived and thought in the time and place it was produced. The problems arise when people in the here and now continue to assign to it divine authority that cannot be questioned, criticized, or amended. The same is true of the Quran and any other religious text.
