I had a strange encounter on a dating app today.

A couple, a man and a woman looking to bring someone into their open relationship, liked my profile.

Sure, I'm used to that - but the thing is, the woman unmistakably looked like she could be a long lost sibling.

Now granted, I'm not interested in men, but let's say I were - would that not be weird for you, my guy? A woman who looks like she could be your girlfriend's twin? Would it not be especially weird for her?

I wonder if it's actually possible to meet someone IRL instead of on dating apps these days. And if so, where?

I know someone who met her girlfriend in an art class. A friend of mine once suggested I show up to an LGBT bookshop and stand around looking confused, which uh, could be worth a shot at this point?

I'm not a fan of loud clubs and I don't drink. Church isn't an option either as I'd rather date someone who also isn't religious. I don't really have a reason to go to Church unless it's for a wedding or a funeral.

I've heard there are LGBT board game nights held in nearby cities but I don't really know many board games. Maybe I could join a society? There's a hiking group. Poetry, maybe? Art? Hmm.

I met my partner offline. He didn't even go online lol. I met him where I wasn't looking to meet someone: on the bus. I find with me that meeting other people is easier when it's accidental. If I join a social group just to meet friends, chances are I won't build any connections with anybody, but when I go to work I seem to form connections with colleagues without thinking about it.

Back when I was single and lonely I joined an arts and crafts group to try and make friends and/or meet a guy, but I had no success even though they had their own struggles such as shyness or mental health conditions, etc. I just looked around shyly thinking "right, whom shall I make friends with? Which guys are cute and could be single?" I got chatting to a man that I felt a connection forming but he said he was married and talked about his wife and kids. It was nice to just chat to him but I did quite fancy him so felt secretly disappointed that he wasn't available. He was the only guy there. And I didn't seem to form any sort of bond with any of the other women there, so I just quit in the end.
