It's Nietzche. But I agree. "Those who fight monsters must take care not to become them." That's something I've grappled with on BBSes, as I had been bullied at school and at home, and have occasionally been a bully on BBSes.

I was watching "Triumph of the Will" the other day. It got me wondering about Messiah mythology in general. If Adolph Hitler had been killed in prison after he wrote "Mein Kampf", 500 years from now, would that have become the next Bible??

The fictional Jesus character depicted in the Christian bible is immoral. For example:

* He condemns the people of entire cities to terrible deaths (Matthew 11:20-24).

* He encourages men to abandon their wives and families (Matthew 19:29).

* He encourages people to hate their family (Luke 14:26).

* He discriminates against rich people (Matthew 19:23-24).

Emp is a coward who hides behind his PC and bashes others, he cannot even be respectfull, he just hates and hates, it's his reason for doing it. I know from witnessing the better side of this, he spews lies and hates..

Well really, HOW can I respect Jesus? And so I cannot be respectful towards Jesus. It is unreasonable to expect me to respect such an unethical man. It is like asking me to respect a murderer.

Satanic cults have been found guilty of murder have become self-injurious and even have taken other peoples pets for blood sacrafices.. Seems to be just as bad, if not worse then any arguement you can accuse all of Christians as..

Most christians I have known have been the most wonderfull people, the type of mentality that cares and helps. You obviously have no shame and don't know the truth of them, you just hate.

You're defending a religion that promotes unfair treatment of women, homosexuals, pagans, and the handicapped. If anyone here is a bigot, it's you. If someone tells you he thinks all races are below the Japanese, are you gonna tell him you respect his opinion? Hopefully you'll call him a racist idiot. Not all points of view are equally valid; bigots deserve no sympathy.

I'm gonna excuse the medieval Christians because they didn't know any better, people back then believed in all sorts of crazy stuff. Magic, dragons, merfolk, leprechauns, God, ghosts, et cetera. I don't believe in elves though, do you? Supernatural beliefs had a good run, and they were fun, but come on man. Sometimes you've just gotta let it go.

P.S., If it's any consolation, I also think Satanism is dumb.

Ditto. Much of satanism is a knee-jerk reaction to Christianity. However, what angers sc so much, I believe, is that emp takes delight (as I would to rather more zealotic people) in pointing out the flaws of Christianity, without showing some of the base principles behind it that are good. Many people have done ill in the name of other religions.

At best, I think of Jesus as the first true peacenik, but one who was also trying to help humanity. Whether or not he was the Son of God is unknown, and to me, irrelevant.
