It was usually physical conflict or outright defiance that was the deal breaker. Noise and distraction I could deal with just a threat to pull over. I refuse to take sides when both are being jerks. Also, I am an only child and never understood the dynamics of a sibling relationship. Yes. My kids are good at push-ups...also sit-ups, jumping jacks, and running laps around the house. We never cared for spanking and never much understood grounding. Calisthenics was the only thing we could think of to do. Seems to have worked pretty well. They are teens and we still sometimes do it.

Hah! Are you like a PE teacher or affiliated with the military? hah.
I shall add altercations to my list of examples, and calisthet5ics as the remedy.

no, no, GreenBlue! The only reason Dox47 gets to have a gun in your avatar is because it is not POINTED at anyone! I asked Alex long ago when he first joined and that was his ruling.

Strangely enough, I can't find the section of the rules where is says that gun avatars require some sort of special permission, or that guns are only allowed if they aren't pointing at anything. Is it in the super secret "random rules for people who argue with the mods" section by chance? I happen to know that I'm not the first person here to have a gun in their picture, so what made me so special that Alex needed to be consulted about my avatar?

The 'super secret "random rules for people who argue with the mods"' are neither secret, random, nor selectively applied. I think this is another case of projecting your worst fears onto the situation, which is very understandable if there are negative experiences with authority figures in your history. As I've said elsewhere, as autistics we'd all like a simple black & white interpretation of the rules, but that's not in the best interest of the community as a whole.

oh, no, Dox47, you aren't special, your gun avatar was. I had several complaints and I was investigating, is all.

Are you saying that there are another set of rules somewhere that goes into greater detail about what's allowed in an avatar photo? Whatever my history with authority may be, the chain of events that occurred shortly after I joined this site paints a certain picture that leads to an ugly conclusion. What am I supposed to think when a moderator seems to come down hard on people with whom they were actively arguing politics with, then responds to 3rd party comments about how they (the mod) got "pwned" in the debate by making menacing comments about their banning powers? Especially when I receive anonymous hate mail full of porn shortly thereafter, and someone crashes the offending thread and it is deleted rather than being fixed. Let's just say that in light of that situation, I'm not surprised that despite the fact I was not the first or only person to have a gun in their avatar, it was suddenly important to make sure that was within the rules. I don't so much have a problem with authority as with abuse of authority, that I do have a real problem with.

And the answer to those complaints wasn't "There is nothing in the rules prohibiting avatars with guns" why? If it was such a big deal, why were there no complaints about the other gun avatars that were here before I was? In that case, my avatar was not special, or unique for that matter, someone else had a nearly identical shot of themselves shooting an AK47 as their avatar. Which brings us again to why where spurious complaints about my avatar taken seriously enough to bring to Alex?

Um. No. If you make a thread, then therefore it is your thread.

Um. No. All threads belong to Alex. Since Lau, who is a Moderator of the is website, posted the claim, then you can ba assured that he was acting on Alex's behalf.

(And yes, I'm waiting for Alex or one of the mods to post: "All your thread are belong to us!" )

why would any thread, that *I* created belong to Alex? I made it so it is *my* thread not his.

Don't try to argue the point with me, as this is Alex's website, not mine! He makes the rules, and the moderators enforce them. And Lau, being one of Alex's moderators, has expressed the rule that the thread-maker does not own the thread.

Simple, concise, and to the point. Members do not own the threads that they originate - Alex does.

Are we really going to get bogged down in the semantics of the difference between "my thread" and "thread that I started"? It doesn't strike me as being terribly important to the running of the site...

A lot of the things people complain about don't strike me as terribly important. Nevertheless, I try to take all complaints seriously. Sometimes though, it just seems so irrelevant to anything going on today, like some people just wanna complain or just wanna argue.

I'm in favor of the more controversial members - they ensure that there's never a dull moment.

I'm in favor of this thread too. It's a good read.

Exactly. And, conversely, a greater variety of ideas, expressed in a greater variety of ways = a greater variety of new ideas, thoughts, etc.

And a good read. :D
