That's almost all so-called Christians, but if there's a denomination that worships wealth (another anti Christian thing.. false idols and all that) then I guess they take it to extreme lengths.

Religion & Spirituality are not inherently evil things.. organized religion, OTOH, is no bueno.

I don't see religion and spirituality as necessarily evil, but they are certainly not what I believe in.

Do you believe in science?

What I believe in is best described as materialistic atheism.

Ew. Now I'm picturing you as one of the stereotypical gays interested in fashion & aesthetics. No personal offence intnded towards you, and even though I can't pretend not to like looking at those pretty boys.. it's that mentality that just says "Yuck," to me.

What that means is I dont believe in anything spiritual whatsoever. I believe in materialism. That is, we are our molecules and nothing else. There is no such thing as spirit. Not materialistic as in Madonna lol.

Having perceived the world under the influence of more than one psychedelic drug, I cannot deny the existence of a spiritual/metaphysical realm. Seeing is believing. It's always there - we just can't see it.. unless we have a little extra sensory pharmacologically enhanced vision going on. There is more to energy than solid state matter.

Someone said a phrase yesterday that's appropriate to repeat here: "We are not physical beings having a spiritual experience.. we are spiritual beings having a physical experience." (and when our bodies die, our spirits live on into perpetuity, possibly being reincarnated into something or someone else in the future.)

SO you believe in elves and souls because you popped some mushrooms that contained chemicals that messed with your neurons in some way...OK dude whatever floats your boat...

If you've never done psychedelics then you have no frame of reference to judge from. You don't see things that aren't there, you see more of what is there.. and once you see it, you just know. 8)

That's insane. They induce hallucinations, as in messing up the brains normal reality perception software. Nothing else.

I like this newer gimmick of spamming about mushrooms now in various threads. He wants me to do shrooms so I can have a closer spiritual relationship with the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

From my observations, Americans are very deluded about healthy eating and proper portion size.

We always get crazy busy around the holidays, which means, in addition to consuming cakes, pies, and large meals at home, people are adding to the load by eating out. Also, Americans use eating as a social comma:

"It's my birthday, let's stuff our face!"

"I got promoted, let's stuff our face!"

"It's the weekend, let's stuff our face!"

People in the West would do well to find other things to do with their time besides eating.

I know people from Ireland and the UK who are shocked at the sheer amount of food served as a single meal in American restaurants.

I was stationed in Germany for two years.

After coming back to the States, it was a bit shocking to behold just how huge American portions are.

One thing XFG--I thought people with outstanding diagnoses of Autism, including Aspergers, were barred from US military service.

They are; however, I joined in 2005 before the ban went into effect, and I wasn't diagnosed at the time.

I was actually diagnosed by the Air Force's mental health service in 2010.

How did this affect you? I know someone who got a clinical depression diagnosis post Army, and she didn't want to get help while serving because she had Top Secret clearance and would certainly have lost it with said diagnosis.

Basically, I got removed from my regular job and was placed in an office working directly for the squadron commander for the last three years of my enlistment.

But, since I was put on medications, I was no longer "world-wide-qualified," meaning that I couldn't deploy, PCS, or go TDY.

They should just ban those sugary sodas, entirely. They have practically no nutritive value and do cause obesity, diabetes, and tooth decay. But putting your waitress in the line of fire by refusing you a refill is just a cowardly halfway measure by government.

Thats not true , they dont advertize regular Pepsi or Dr Pepper or ginger ale in Norway yet I love drinking these

Sugarless Pepper is terrible though :p

I believe in "freedom". I think the government tends to micromanage peoples lives. The government does it because they can get away with it. Imagine if they tried to ban alcohol in the U.K. Alcohol can lead to a number of problems for society such as increased diabetes, auto crashes, addiction, liver disease, blackouts.

So instead of banning alcohol, they ban sugary drinks.

[On the other hand, governments love to spend money. So they create new sources of revenue, such as taxing sugary drinks. This allows them to take on a mantel of a reformer, a crusader for a good cause while at the same time meeting their needs for more revenue. They could even claim that they were saving the world because they were reducing the amount of carbon dioxide used in the carbonated drinks.
Also one of the causes for obesity is the increased use of sugar over the past century and the lack of physical exercise and physical labor (physical work). So I am not a fan of sugary drinks or alcohol drinks. But I am a fan of "freedom".]

This.

I believe the "sugar tax" is just an excuse for the government to wrangle more money out of us citizens.

35 krones for a large bottle of soda here due to sugar tax (not to mention poor selection due to small population) , ridiculous....then again Norway screws you with high tax on most things

Come to think of it they dont advertize sodas with sugar on TV here any longer.....

It's not just US , in UK when I order french fries they serve me a portion so large you'd have to be 2-3 people to eat it up

They tried to suggest sugar tax on sodas in Philly but people were like hell no

Hmm, but apparently you can make this s**t up.

Why do you insist on misquoting me with your fabricated Alternative Facts? :?

I never said that. I suggested that you could, but never that I want you to.

I don’t particularly care whether or not you ever experience the joys of magic mushrooms nor meet your noodley maker. You’d probably be less irritating if you did, but I never said I want you to.

I came across an article this morning on the subject of sugar tax Consider another example of the use of an instrumental variable, the tax on sugary beverages. We are interested in the effect of consumption of sugary drinks on health and often use taxes as the instrumental variable because more taxes lead to less consumption and have no known impact on health. If taxes were strongly linked with consumption of sugar than it would be a useful instrumental variable in searching for causation, but it isn’t, because people replace one beverage with another (juice with more sugar replacing soda). So the causal link remains problematic.

It has always astounded me what people call a portion size. People who would bake but made meals that were enough to feed a family than people of two or one and they were always fat. My husband always had a habit of making too much food and his excuse was he is used to cooking for the whole family. So I got used to having leftovers. No way was I going to waste food. As a child, there as rarely any leftovers because my mom would make just enough for the whole family and rarely did we have leftovers for dinner and back then I was not fond of leftovers because they didn't taste as well when cooked fresh. Bot my ex's made too big of portions, my first one would made himself spaghetti but it would be enough to maybe feed four people but instead it was all for him and he would eat it out of a kettle or mixing bowl. My other ex would cook meals and make them big enough to feed a family of four. One time he made oatmeal and there was many leftover. I got up the next day and scooped myself a bowl leaving some for him that was enough for one breakfast bowl. Ne said that was hardly a bowl and called me self centered for it. No, that was a normal serving. He just liked to eat so damn much. Yes, they were all fat. This is a pattern I have noticed in fat people, their portions always tend to be big enough to feed a family. Another person I would run into at work when I worked in a immigrate building, she was also very big and I always saw candy wrappers and TV dinner boxes or fast food in her trash can when I would empty it. I couldn't help but think this is why she is fat. This was daily what i saw in her trash can, sometimes she would bring in her own lunch like her own sandwich she would make but lot of times it was the other stuff and chips.

Some people do try to eat healthy but don't realize TV dinners are not healthy even though they are marked as such on the box. They are calorie indensity and do not keep you full. The portion is very small. Also people think food is automatically magic weight loss just because it's listed as fat free or sugar free or lean cruisiene or as fitness health or just because it's healthy. You can gain weight on healthy food, it's all about calories in and calories out. But there is some foods you can eat more with and still lose weight or maintain your weight because while the servings are larger, there is less calories in it so it allows you to eat more to compensate for the calories you need. It's a matter of knowing what foods to eat. Lot of people eat the wrong foods so they are overweight as a result and most people eat by hunger, than by the clock. Most people eat until they are full than by portion size and servings.

I actually read that very few people can eat intuitively and stay thin within healthy range. My cat was that way, I could leave cat food out all the time and she would only eat it when hungry and stop when full and she was never fat while for some cats, the owners can't leave food out all the time or their cat would be eating it all the time and not knowing when to stop and they get fat as a result so they have to only give them a 1/4 of a cup each day to monitor their eating so they won't overeat. It's the same with humans too. The problem is, lot of us don't even know what hunger is, we eat when we are bored, we eat when we are stressed, we eat when we focus and whenever there is food around. Plus our parents make us clean our plates as children so that throws off our hunger cues and teaches us to overeat. I have seen a study showing that most people eat and don't even realize they are doing it because it's right there and they were sitting there snacking while they are concentrating and then they don't remember they have eaten it. Study has also shown that lot of people don't remember what they have eaten the day before or the day before that or what they have eaten this day so that is why people keep a food journal when they are losing weight.

There is that BBC show called Secret Eaters and it showed all this. People on the show have always been amazed at how much they were actually eating. Lot of people underestimate their calorie intake. Mind you, all these people have bee overweight. Then they would start losing the weight after keeping track of their calorie intake and paying attention to what they are eating. Plus lot of people might not realize how many calories a coffee has they bought or how much in a snack they bought from the coffee shop. When people snack, they also don't realize how many calories they are consuming, then they wonder why they are not losing weight.

There are all these shows out there about this stuff to educate people so they become aware.

On My 600 Lb Life, I have always been amazed at how big their meals are like they eat at breakfast how much a average size person would eat in four days. Like eating a whole entire large pizza while for me, 2-3 slices would be enough for a meal to fill me. But for a 600 lb person, one big pizza isn't even enough to satisfy them. I bet if I handed one of them a bowl of mac and cheese in a large breakfast bowl, they would feel I was starving them because to them that wouldn't even be a meal while that would be for me and my kids. I can't imagine how big their food bill must be every month and that includes take outs and fast food. I just imagine how much money they would be saving if they simply ate less, eat as much as a 160 lb person would eat at their height. They would lose it very fast.

I remember when I was losing weight, I would cut a slice of cake into a half piece than my normal slice and I made a comment to my mom about it and she said that was actually a normal sized slice I was having. I was shocked. It's not like my slice was 1/6 of the piece, it was actually 1/8. That has always been my normal serving of cake. Then I started to cut it into 1/16.

In restaurants, I could never have dessert because I would always be too full from the food. Now I just doggy bag it so I can have some dessert. My parents will eat out and eat half on their plate and bring the rest home. That is the way it's supposed to be in the US. You eat out, enjoy the food, bring the rest home and enjoy it at home. You're not actually supposed to clean your plate, this is a hidden thing I had figured out as an adult about our American culture of eating out. That is why our portions are so big.

How big are American pizzas?

I think I know why we have sugar tax now. The sugar is addicting so they tax it, same reason why they tax cigarettes and tobacco products. I wonder if they tax alcohol and beer too. I wonder if this means they are taxing process foods and other foods that have sugar in it. That is why food tastes so good and because we have gotten used to it, food companies wouldn't be able to make money if their food products lacked sugar because no one would buy it. Sugar makes us want more of it. Now the whole sugar tax makes sense.
