To be honest I didn’t know they had done an English-language version of that song!
More of I’ve seen their music videos, can get a minimalist gist of the odd line or two scattered here and there... and have a memory of reading interviews with them in metal magazines: “they’re a pretty left-wing bunch of guys” was my impression.
So, therefore, I assume that any neo-Nazi fan of theirs has probably grasped the stick firmly by the wrong end
There is an analysis of the video of their more recent single Deutschland on youtube on the Three Arrows channel, which I quite enjoyed.
Ha!
One "One-up-man-ship" point to Pepe.
“And what do points mean?
POINTS MEAN PRIZES!”

Yes, you were right.
"Their heart is on the left".
But you didn't come to the conclusion through the forensic analysis of their German lyrics.
When the words were put into "Englisch", it was made into a romantic scenario.
Those guys will do anything for the almighty dollar,
Which is hardly surprising, when you consider they came from the deprivation of East German.

Very true.
I’m sure they also have pension plans and end-of-life care to worry about.
If they have wives and kids (no idea if they do it don’t) there’s probably a desire to leave provision for them as well.

Have a hard time telling where conscious manipulation ends, and the sheer dumb “luck”* of operating in a time and a place where there was pre-existing widespread vulnerability to their propaganda begins.
(Not that I think that’s anything particular to Germany, impression I’ve got is that any/every group of humans is potentially vulnerable, given the “right”** chain of events... nature of the beast as you say)

A lot of simple-minded people think it was a purely German phenomenon,
And that feeds their inherent racism, ironically.
That is dangerous. <Pepe looks at china>
An attitude I’ve come across in this country, although only amongst folks born after the war... not the folks who lived through it. (Could just be selection bias of the small number of people I’ve managed to have repeated functioning conversations with there though)
Hmmm... has there been empowered communist party that hasn’t resorted to either nationalism or racism (or both) to maintain its position?
(I’ll have to check that out, I don’t currently have enough knowledge to call it)
