What's wrong with calling a spade a spade. If someone espouses racist nonsense they should anticipate being called racist. Bawwing and flailing their hands in rage doesn't make the shoe cease to fit.
The problem is, when people are called racist, they are less willing to listen and be educated because they feel assaulted.
I find it better to just disagree with them and explain why without using the word racist. People will actually listen just as long as you aren't calling it racist. And there will always be people out there who will never open their mind to it and just continue living in a world of ignorance
I also think there are racist comments people can make without actually being racist because of their unaware of dog whistles or unaware of the problem.
Perhaps we can all work on the definition of the word than seeing it as an accusatory term. It's human nature to get defensive when we feel we are being accused.
