Think of it this way. In 1835 Edgar Allan Poe married his 13-year-old cousin. He apparently was also engaged to a 15-year-old at the time of his death. However, back then it was apparently OK to do that!

I won't talk about Canada or Australia but by and large, everything of which China is being accused nowadays was done by the US several times over, but such actions were apparently OK at the time. But because nowadays "we all know better" China isn't given any slack.

The other part to this is that China has always viewed its own actions from a Chinese point of view. So if you look at what people are saying in Europe and North America, there is a presumption of "Western Ideals" which carries a suggestion that China should be ashamed of itself for being Chinese rather than aping the West. For example, whether or not you sympathize, you have to admit that coercing Taiwan to come under the control of Beijing makes perfect sense from the Chinese perspective, furthermore if you argue that people in Taiwan are entitled to their own separate form of government, you imply that Beijing's form of government is inherently inferior. See how far you get convincing Chinese that their form of government is inferior to that of a breakaway government established by the defeated Guomindang.

the "chinese perspective" sucks, frankly.

I was high school and college age during the Cold War and had to learn that the rest of the world didn't admire the US as much as we admired ourselves. TBH people in many parts of the world thought the American Perspective sucked, if you want put it that way. There are most certainly people in China who understand that the rest of the world doesn't admire the Chinese Perspective, but they are most certainly in the minority. It's fair to say that the US is in a better position to be objective than China, but we also have a long way to go.
