There isn't a decent forum for parents who have profoundly autistic children. Only sites with cure fanatics. My daughter has really turned invisible after the autism diagnosis opened up to recognise higher functioning autistics.

The other invisible people are the parents of adult ASD people who are still struggling. The parents lose their connections with each other when the kids grow up but we still could do so much if we had a forum about what we do now. Everywhere there are things for kids.

^^ yeah! what's up with that? Where are all those people that put forums together on the internet, anyway!?

I thought the parenting section here at WP was good, but I think it does get over shadowed by the other boards here.

I like the parenting section here. It's very good for parents of aspy kids but parenting profoundly autistic kids is very different. I don't think they belong together.

I have both types of kids. As adults, my two kids are walking very different paths. Parents need to come to terms with how to ensure safety and full lives for our profoundly autistic kids in very different ways than for the higher functioning kids. Solving my profoundly autistic daughter's problems present very different challenges than for my son. It would be small group but I would really like to talk to parents with kids like my daughter with the positive, realistic attitude that the atmosphere of WP presents.

I would be glad to put up a sticky in the Parent's Discussion section for your subsection of it, OregonBecky. Would that work for you?

So, post a new thread of what you want to have in the Parent's Discussion and name it what you want the sticky named and send me the link. I will sticky it, then.

I've been trying to get in the mood to create a sticky but I don't think I have the temperament to host a sticky. Thanks for the offer.
