I spoke with CME's developmental pediatrician today. She is writing up his final report, with the information from the autism questionnaires DH, his teacher and I filled out, plus the reports from the SLP and his OT. She returned my call from yesterday to say that she'd have her final report ready by next month when we meet with the schools. She said that all the reports were very alike, and all indicate Asperger's/HFA.

I'm relieved to have this part out of the way. Next step is meeting with the school in July to figure out what to do for first grade. I'm more confident that we'll have an appropriate school placement, since we have an official diagnosis. I believe in the long run, he's going to be fine, but it might be a long road getting him there!

I think knowing makes so much difference. It gives you a roadmap of sorts. Keys.

Ok two things
1 Learn the laws
2 Repet after me "I'm not here to make thing easy for the school, I'm here to make sure they don't screw my kid."
If they start to complain about what it takes to care for you child offer to call the school board. If they sujest your child stay home for a few weeks while they get things set up tell them no dice. Weeks can quickly become months Jake was in limbo all of last year when there was a school up the road from the one he was in that is just for atuistic kids. Don't sign a IEP that you do not agree with EVER. Best of luck
