An early diagnosis would have helped me in school. I was through with school by age 13. I did eventually get my high school certificate by 17 or 18, but I was not prepared to enter the working world.
I think a bit of special ed would have helped me.
I'm not sure if things would have worked out any better. I'd probably have had some form of employment by now and my brother and sister would have treated me in a different way.

I can see why those dx'ed early would resent being labeled and restricted in a "you can't do that-you're autistic" mindset. Those dx'ed late had to learn to cope the best way they could and those dx'ed early are given little opportunity to discover what they can do. We've gone from one extreme to another-maybe a sensible balance will be achieved one day.

It would have definitely helped me understand why I was so different to everyone else, and would have helped my parents understand more, and maybe I would have been able to stay at school, and at home when I was a teenager.
