I have jury duty this week and am toatlly freaked out by it. I did it once before a long time ago they make you sit in a big niosy room with 60-70 people and call your name if you get picked I cant hear anything in a place like that and overload quickly to noise. If the pick you they make you sit with 15-20 people and call you up one by one and ask questions in front of everyone I'm freaking out just thinking about it. Cant reschedual anytime would be bad plus I'm self employed so I miss a day more if chosen and I have new customers later in the week.

Do you have an official diagnosis? You may be able to get out of it if you tell the judge or lawyers that you find the surroundings overwhelming enough that you wouldn't be able to make a reasonable objective decision while serving on a jury.

I have no dought I wont get picked but still have to go to the court house 8:30-5:00 Its just very stressfull All the secuity and stufff cant leave when you want noisey people all to close. I am afriad of acting like an idiot and I always set off metal detectors prompting further checking and more anxiety last time I was excused but only after nasty remarks from the secatary and not until 2:30.

Maybe if you have to go to jury duty, you could use some noise blocking headphones or earplugs to help the worst of the noise. Earplugs would be less noticable. Tell the bailiff or whoever calls the prospective jurors that you have a hearing problem with difficulty hearing in the presence of background noise and give him a large card with your name written on it so you can see, rather than hear, when it is your turn.

Do you set off metal detectors because of a medical reason? If so, bring evidence of the artificial shoulder or hip or pacemaker or whatever you have with you to the courthouse. You should have gotten a card the size of a credit card when one of these was installed. If it is because you forget to empty all your pockets or take off your shoes, then don't forget to do this and then be careful to walk through the middle of the magnetometer without bumping into it because that can set it off too. Some people leave their shoes on, but many shoes use hidden metal in their construction, so it is better to remove them in the beginning.

It's easy to get out of. Just tell them that you think the person is guilty and should burn in hell. They are looking for impartial jurors.

1) I don't believe in the death penalty under any circumstances

2) (as someone else suggested) "I know the defendant's guilty."

3) I'm a member of (name some very ideological 3rd party)

4) "Eh? What's that? You'll have to speak up; I have hearing problems. No, I don't read Sign."

5) and the last and most effective, "No hable ingles."

Or you could say you advocate the legalization of all drugs and you support jury nullification. That should do the trick.

The one trick that doesn't work--I know 'cause I've tried: saying you're a Pagan in your interview. I don't think they even pay attention to potential jurors' religious beliefs.

I decided to go through with it because it was a chance to express my support for two minority viewpoints: drug legalization and jury nullification. (Whatta coinky-dink!) So it was no surprise I didn't get called. I did get $15 and a lunch voucher, which was nice, but yeah--it doesn't make up for a day's wages.

The whole thing just disrupts my whole schedual and makes me very nervous
I'll be flaping and twiching all day and the day before and after it makes me feel like a freak and I hate it.

Don't take it too seriously. Just keep reminding yourself that you're not one of the self-righteous and irrational that people invariably become, when they have to do jury duty, and I think you'll be fine....

Just try to remain relax as much as possible there at the courtroom when You get home just do something that is relaxing for you. I have served on a jury last year myself for Me it was not as stressful but it might be stressful for You.
