I want to use OS 9 on my windows PC... I am used to using the OS at my school, and I want to see if I can install it. My PC has 128 MB of RAM, and a 6.2 gig hard drive.

Nope, you can't. The OS has to be designed to work with PC hardware, and Apple didn't make the switch to Intel based chips until OS X. OS X *can* be installed on a PC with some work, but if all you have is 128 MB of RAM, I doubt it would even install.

That is true, but perhaps I can offer an alternative? Check out Xubuntu. It is designed for PC's that have 128 MB of ram. Basically, it's a smaller version of Ubuntu, which is free and user supported.

If you had a better computer, 512+ Mb Ram you could run Mac OS 9 in a emulator known as SheepShaver

The only way to do it would be in SheepShaver.

Heck that means at best you are running at 300mhz, any chance of getting something a bit newer?

You could get a second hand mac ..... US $99 + shipping will get you a G4 http://www.macofalltrades.com/ShoppingCart.asp?

I even saw a G3 for US$40

Here is a list of Used Mac dealers in the US http://lowendmac.com/dealers/index.shtml Just one I pulled up with a search. There will obviously be more but this should get you started.

nope, you cant install os9 really on a pc, but you could run it in a PowerPC old school mac emulator..

perhaps pearpc might do what you want adequately?

PearPC is not compatible with OS 9.

The only emulator out there that can run OS 9, is SheepShaver.

OS 9 won't work on an X86 CPU period. OS9 and early versions of OS X were compiled and optimised to work with PowerPC CPU's which were RISC processors not unlike those used in Unix Workstations like SPARC Stations and SGI computers.

The only workaround you will have is using an emulator like those mentioned above, however emulation won't work well unless you have a fast CPU and a lot of memory in the system you want to run OS9 on.
