Great film. Only problem: John Carpenter and Kurt Russell made a sequel in 1996 called "Escape from LA" which has got to be one of the worse films I've seen (bought the DVD on the basis of New York). And they'd been such a great team - "The Thing" is unbeatable.

Yes i really liked the "New York" too. Have only watched a bit of the "LA" one before i got bored. Was thinking of giving it another chance but wont go out of my way to watch it.

Im also really annoyed how hollywood takes original classics like "Escape from Precinct 13" and "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" and spoil them with inferior remakes.

Agreed, but I think it was 'Assault on Precinct 13", and it's simply one of the best films ever. A zombie movie without zombies. Or something. Oh, and 'Escape from LA' of course can't match 'New York', but it's fun, the Carpenter way.

(Edit: Heh, I just realized I replied to a more than a 2 years old post. Whatever.)

The characters I can most relate to are the protagonists in Sam Peckinpah's movies. You know, "the lead character (or characters) in most of his films live by a code of conduct or honor that proves to be obsolete in the face of changing times" (imdb.com). Like Warren Oates's character in 'Bring Me the head of Alfredo Garcia', or the characters in 'The Wild Bunch'.

Movies: Ren McCormick (Kevin Bacon's character in Footloose).

TV: Stan Marsh (from South Park).

These are not really movie characters, but I can totally relate to John Dorian and Doctor Cox from Scrubs (it's occasionally freaky how much those two are like me).

Other people have likened me to Will (from Will and Grace), but for some reason I cannot truly relate.

I can't think of a single movie character I can relate to. However, there are several television characters that I do relate to.

1. Spock from Star Trek (ok he was in some films too, but many years later).

2. Data from Star Trek (yeah, I know he was also in some ST movies too).

3. Vincent from Beauty & the Beast-living on the edge of society.

4. Sheldon & Leonard from the Big Bang Theory-I feel like kind of a cross between the two.

Odd, I only seem to identify with male characters. I never seem to identify with females. It's much the same in real life too.

Though they seem little alike, I can relate to all these in some ways:
Morticia, Lurch, Wednesday & Gomez (actually the whole family, I would fit right in, haha) - from the Addams Family
Both Belle & the Beast - from Beauty and the Beast
Lilo - from Lilo & Stitch
Esmeralda (and a bit Quasimodo) - from The Hunchback of Notre-Dame
Pocahontas - from Pocahontas
Peter Pan - from Peter Pan
Ariel - from the Little Mermaid
Lilith Sternin - from Cheers
Mary - from Mary Poppins

There's probably some more, I just can't think of them right now..

Alice Kingsleigh from Alice in Wonderland (2010). She and I are both dreamers who don't follow the "rules" of society, and neither of us show very much emotion. We are also kind and gentle. Alice and I also have the same hair and we are the same age (19). I also relate to the Mad Hatter from the same film, because my emotions can go from cheerful and giggling one moment to dark and angry the next. Both the Hatter and I have mental illnesses that are pretty obvious to the people who meet us.

I know she's technically a TV cartoon character, but Daria for me too. Did they ever make a Daria movie though? Because that would be awesome.

Kyle Reese from the original terminator. He was basically a high strung N/T, but was messed up just enough to be a real intense character. He was a survivor, no matter the odds against him. I related to this character trait.

I can relate to Harold from Harold and Maude, some aspects of Luna Lovegood's personality (Harry Potter character) and Ben from Ben X (to some extent).
