I'm curious whether anyone else out there plays (tabletop) wargames, and if so what era/armies?

I used to, up till about 12 years ago.

Napoleonics, especially the peninsular campaign
and WW2 microtanks. (1:285, 5mm infantry)

What took me away from it was the lack of satisfaction with keeping track of all the things that really mattered (weather, fatigue, supply, line of sight, command and control) that table-top doesn't do easily. The first personal computers offered some definite promise on this and there were a few superb games as early as the Sinclair Spectrum. (It's not developed as I'd hoped though, as realtime and impressive graphics have proved vastly more popular than more strategic or command based simulations)

31st Century Batteltech is probably the most played table top wargame of mine I own if that counts. For me the computer games based on the battletech universe never reflected the tactics and use of mechs and combined arms in the hex based board game. To be fair in my teens I was pretty much obsessed with Battletech 8O. There is however an awesome conversion of the board game into a computer program out there called Megamek which you can also play online as well

Though I enjoy the socialising of table top wargaming the computer is such a great number cruncher and it saves so much hassle and organisation and calculation that you are able to have more complex games played at a quicker pace. For example War in the pacfic the struggle against japan, as a table top game that would of taken forever to play 8O

Anyway getting back on topic my favourite era is the eastern front of World war 2

Combat Mission part 2: Barbarossa to Berlin

The Iron Roadblock remains a challenging scenario: an advancing group with PZII's meet their first KVI.

Pz II vs a KV aye

Not good, I guess your relying on support like aircraft or a fluke shot which disables its main gun I guess being more manuverable tanks the Pz II's have that advantage.

Are you looking forward to the new campaign system they are releasing soon I can see alot of potentials for scenario's like this were you encounter unbalanced and unmatched forces

It's mainly trying to distract the thing by attempting to get behind it (at great cost) while your flak 88's unlimber.
(Old rule of the out-gunned or the under-armoured: If he's in range, so are you.)

I wasn't aware of a new development, I'll keep a watch for that.

Oh yes Combat Mission Campaigns is here

http://www.battlefront.com/products/cmc/index.html

Theve been working on this since the release of CM:BB, kept it quiet and under raps from the community. Can see why it looks like theres alot of potential there

Oh there also doing what is dubbed Combat mission x2 which is going to be known as combat mission: Shock Force. It will have a new game engine and be set in a near future conflict in Syria with a US Stryker rapid deployment force vs the Syrian army. Sounds pretty aweful to me but i guess i gotta be open minded about it

I play in a local D&D Miniatures league, and play Horrorclix with my 30-something tech geek friends.

Just have to bump this. I'm a long time wargamer,
though I haven't done much in the last few years.

Need to get back into it. Kinda shocked that more
aspies aren't actually. Seems like our kinda thing.

I was trying to get into it, but with the lack of cash (because I'm 13 and don't have a job), don't knwo of a location to buy tabletop game stuff, and the one I was trying to get into being from England, I wasn't able to continue playing it. They just cost too much! A group of a few miniatures cost 30 something dollars!

I play Babylon 5 Wars by myself; it's like Starfleet Battles but vessels die way quicker and at a greater range.

Technically chess is. And I do play risk, which counts.

Chess and risk are fun, though with other tabletop wargames, there is no one else in my city that plays them.

Unlikely. I've found that most moderate sized cities have
a few players lurking about.

Check out: http://grognard.com/
for a huge site, which has links to
many personal and club pages.

I'm creating one that is similar to D&D and Warhammer in lore. The game takes place in a world where there is only two magic-types: Celestial and Necromancy. Celestial Magic actually is healing and Anti-zombie energy from the gods. Meanwhile, Necromancy is only used by zombies.

This is more, but I'll get into it later.
