Ok, I found the Pay Pal page again, ( by clicking on one of the Donation sum buttons/blobs ), but it says that the donations are per month; 25$, 50$, etc. Is that right? If pay by Pay Pal it would automatically debit 25$, or whatever, from my a/c every month? 8O

Is this the case for the credit card payments too? :?: I don't want to start filling out the credit card page if this was the case. I don't remember it saying that last time I contributed.

I certainly couldn't pay 25$ per month. I paid 50$ several months ago, and could run to between 5$-10$ per month, but 25$ a month is just way too much.

PS. Even though I had already made a donation by Pay Pal I still found the first page that comes up ( when click on "WP Supporters" ) confusing because it looks as if you can only pay by cheque.

What are people living in Europe, like me, supposed to do? Ordinary cheques from banks here ( especially non-UK ones ), are almost never accepted in the USA, and special international ones/money transfers are very expensive.

Lau is looking into the exchange rate for people not in the States, Ouinon. He is in the UK and is aware of the problem with money exchanges. Sorry for the mistake about taking donations only by check, my mistake.

Super! :D So I can pay by Pay Pal or credit card then!

Do I have to pay a fixed monthly amount though? Or can I just pay one-off again like last time/the beginning of the year?

Thanks for the info, corrected info, etc! :)

PayPal takes care of exchanges ...

Any chance of getting a $10.00 PayPal button?

What if I just occasionally used PayPal to send a contribution to Alex at WP?

Yes, that's exactly what I'd like to know! :)

I would prefer to pay by Pay Pal again, ( because it's safer, and the exchange is apparently better? ) but I just checked/followed the procedure and there is no option, apparently, to pay less than 25$ per month.

I think a 10$ Pay Pal button would be good, if it's got to be monthly. Otherwise a tri-monthly arrangement for 25$ or something.

we used to have a 'pay anything' donation, I hadn't realized that Alex set it all up for monthly donations only. how limiting!

Yes, it is rather, and is simply more than I am ready/willing/able to pay.

The "Pay Anything" option for one-off donations was how I paid in the spring, but now it says that you are agreeing to pay the "sum" ( 25$, 50$ etc ) per month!

I didn't go through the whole credit card payment thing to see, and perhaps that still allows one-off donations, but I'd rather use Pay Pal.

If you have contributed through PayPal in the past, you could just go to PayPal and do what you call a "one-off" contribution by clicking on "Send Money", then finding the correct address for Alex or WP in the little window that will open for input of a destination address. That little window might at first be empty, but it will present a scroll of addresses from your past transactions after you click inside it, I believe.

That is a great idea, :) Thank you.

Unfortunately when I paid my WP donation through Pay Pal I didn't have an a/c with them yet; I just did a one-off credit card payment through them, and got a receipt which I long since binned from my inbox. I just looked at my Pay Pal account history, and it doesn't have the WP donation, so no address. So when I tried "Send Money" it couldn't give me the WP address, just a few e-bay ones ( which is what I got it for )!

What email address should I send it to? Anyone know? :) ... ahh! ( after a rapid reread of the WP Pay Pal page ), Does alex@wrongplanet.net sound right?

... Okay, I think I can do a one-off payment! Thank you, leejosepho, for the Pay Pal "Send Money" suggestion! :D

" alex@wrongplanet.net " is the address given on the WP Pay Pal page for the "merchant" with whom are making the transaction. And it is that ( "merchant" ) address that Pay Pal asks for when "Send Money", so it should be alright.

I enclosed a wee email message too, saying that it was from me etc. So, Alex being honest and all, the worst that can happen is that he will have to transfer the money from one "merchant" a/c to another. But it is that address on the WP Pay Pal page.

Was just thinking; it would be useful to have a new/better "notice" on the donations/supporters page to say that people can pay anything, irregularly or regularly, by Pay Pal, ( with "Send Money" to alex@wrongplanet.net , or on the WP page ), aswell as by credit card or cheque, because if my own experience is anything to go by the page as it currently exists will not help people to donate; it will put many of them off. And I don't think that is the intention.

PS. How much does WP get in donations each month/year?

That kind of curiosity is certainly legitimate, but Alex is under no obligation to disclose anything like that here. This forum is somewhat like an addition he has built onto his house and must now maintain so we can all come and do what we do here, and we all do that under the umbrella of a simple "Welcome!" rather than by any kind of contract or partnership.

I would personally like to see a $10-per-month button for my own use, and I can easily understand why some other folks would want/need a button for just an occasional contribution of any amout of their own choosing such as you have just done. However, this place and the responsibilities accompanying it belong to Alex, and all related decisions are his to make.
