technically the strongest hurricane in terms of sheer wind speed and intensity was wilma in 2005. her winds were somewhere at around 185 mph and 888 mbar(stronger than katrina by the way) at one point, but soon gradually declined with near landfall.

Of course katrina, was by far the strongest hurricane in terms it's impressive wind speeds(175 mph highest winds), damaging affect it had toward the physical region of new orleans as well the people living/lived there. Katrina I would say is by far the worst storm in terms of it's traumatic affect that has been done to the people of the usa particular residence or former residence of new orleans.

i've corrected my wrongness. :P Wilma was the strongest storm in terms of intensity in 2005 and in history. :P though katrina still stand out as the most damaging storm destroying the entire region of new orleans completely. this is why i feel it would be apprioate for me to vote katrina rather than wilma. katrina killed alot of people and just had an overall negative affect economically wise in the u.s.a.
