in the same sense as black people, Mormons, indigenous people, etc? i kinda think we are in a way because aspies tend to gravitate toward other aspies, unintentionally even (I've met friends who I didn't even KNOW were aspie until after I got to know them).

I'd say so - I mean, we ARE different, and there aren't very many of us. Not sure about your assumption that only minority groups gravitate towards each other, though - there's plenty of majority groups that do it. I think because out distinguishing feature is essentially a personality, though, it's a bit more obvious when we do it. And as for couples - well, just look up the phenomenon of assortative mating!

I wonder if Aspies are still a minority in Silicon Valley... :)

I dont think aspies tend to gravitate towards each other. Some probably do but others dont. I can imagine in real life, a community full of aspies would start lots of conflict. But i dont really know for sure. I've never had any aspie friends in RL well that I've known of. I've had aspie acquintances though.

I would believe that we are. It would be interesting to know if Aspies are a minority or majority in Silicon Valley Aietra. :D

aspies are a subset of auties which constitute under one percent of the population. So the answer is yes.

Yes we are the minority compare to the whole world population. But online it seems like there are a whole lot of them. Every community you go to, there is always an aspie. I bet I see them all the time and I don't even know it. I'm sure there are others at work but I don't know that. After all I work for a company that is for people with disabilities. I quit my last one I had.

Yes, although Aspies aren't recognised as such, or perhaps as nerds. I would say the prevalence of AS or similar among 'geeks' is very high, like 30% or more.

Depends on how you define "minority", in terms of it being easier to relate to people within your minority, then definitely.

This.

It's pretty obvious we're a minority - otherwise we wouldn't need our own forums to disguss aspie things.

Yes of course we are.
We are only 1% of the general population, I do also find that aspies gravitate towards eachother and that is a common factor within minority groups.

Yes, and part of an established minority already--people with disabilities. Of course that's such a big group that there will definitely be sub-cultures and sub-groups, and autistic people are one such group.

The AS diagnostic label is in the process of being phased out (to make way for the DSM-V). As for the autistic spectrum as a whole, we are 1 out of every 100 people.

Certainly, definitely and completely!
We are part of the neurological minorities community, which includes anyone who is not neurotypical.
