People of modest means who don't have health insurance may qualify for coverage under Medicaid. The House bill expands Medicaid eligibility to 150 percent of the federal poverty level. In 2009, that's $16,245 for an individual or $33,075 for a family of four. The Senate bill is slightly less generous, boosting Medicaid eligibility to people with incomes at or below 133 percent of the federal poverty level, or $14,403 for an individual and $29,326 for a family of four.

Funny how poverty levels are relative to location and the local cost of living.

Poverty level $ here would be freaking rich in some places.

Remind me, is this the bill that would fine people without insurance for $3000? If so, then the only thing the bill is gonna do to me is force me to stay at my parents house until im 50 . . .

I already qualify for Medicare... so basically it's just going to make me happier I still have insurance from my mum's occupation because the waits for public healthcare will probably just get longer.

then you might like the idea that the bill contains a 50% subsidy for prescriptions in the coverage gap for Medicare Part D.
