I got addicted over MSN Messenger. How can I wean off this little green thing that I rely too much in my life?

Set limits to how long you are logged in.

Like. To start, be on the thing for a few hours. Then off for an hour or so. Then go back on, etc.

Increase the breaks as you go.

If it's really bad you might want to outright limit your computer time.

Hmm... This is tough, especially as many of us have obsessive/addictive personalities. From experience, the cold turkey approach seems to be the only one that works. I found that the only way that I could ever quit smoking was to paddle a kayak thirty miles back into the woods and camp out for a week with no tobacco. So, perhaps you could try having someone hang onto your modem for a week (assuming you know someone whom you would trust, and you don't need the net for other things, such as work or school). Good Luck

I'm also addicted to the Internet. I'm addicted to WrongPlanet, Youtube and Facebook.

Maybe you could switch to a different addiction that doesn't have the drawbacks of the one you are having a problem with. Or, you could alternate between the two addictions, so you are not spending as much time with any one addiction. By the way, what is the drawbacks to your current addiction?

Besides spending a lot of time with my special intense interests, I see WrongPlanet as an addiction---but it gives us a lot of useful information---and an alternate form of socializing---so I see it as very positive in my life. I use to be addicted to the computer version of solitaire (as a child I used to play solitaire with real decks of cards---and build bridges out of cards), but now I am addicted to the computer game called Flipwords. When my family goes camping, I get addicted to crossword puzzles---but only while we are camping.

I'm completely addicted to this site and youtube, and I think it's next to impossible for me to quit this habit.

Delete your Live-account.
I did.
It was great.

I'm addicted here and there and I am bored but I am stuck in this compulsive trait. I can't get my mind to my fanfiction.

Seconded. Psychological studies have shown that humans develop different tolerances to chemicals based on the location in which the chemicals are ingested. It's one of the reasons people OD taking "normal" dosages in strange locations (like hotel rooms). Similarly, I think it's easier to quit addictive behaviors "cold-turkey" and to make other large life changes at the same time so that you're breaking a larger cycle. You won't have the old stimuli around - be it the place you live, activities to participate in, etc.

Weaning has never worked for me. I have to cold turkey to quit something.

My present addiction is cleaning my ears with Q-tips. 30 or so times a day. They are very dry, cracked and bleeding. Its probably time to move on.
