Hi. :) I want to be able to log on to my computer quickly again after I close it down so turning it off seems a bit pointless.

What is the best function to use out of these two? I looked in my instruction manual but it doesn't say much about them. :!:

Thanks in advance

Stand By - turns off the monitor, stops the processor and the hard drive, but does not power down the computer. However, you turn it back on by pressing the power button. When back on, it quickly returns to where you left off, since the system is already on.

Hibernate - saves the information on the RAM to the hard drive, and powers down the system. Turn it back on using the power button. The computer powers up, and starts where you left off.

Shut Down - simply powers down the system; the information on the RAM is lost.

I use a notebook, so I prefer Hibernate with Win XP. I've gone over a month without having to reboot. With Win 98 I just turned the computer off. Linux, as of the last time I used it, had no Hibernate function that was easily configurable, so I would Halt and power down.
