Tea drinkers, football-lovers, they get upset if they don't get their cup of tea.

I want to see some stereotyping, not to hurt just to have someone to laugh with.

The tea is very important. And not just any old tea.
The strength, sugar, milk has to be just right.

It sounds silly, but is endearing, and mind you, if you live for any length of time in this weather, you soon understand why it is actually so important! :D

Has anyone here read the "Xenophobes Guide" series? Despite their titles, they're hilarious, written by non-native people who have lived for a long time in the countries they're writing about.

You wanted your stereotype, there it is. This is a fake sub-culture called "Chav" that is, unfortunately, very popular in Britain.

Well that's the funny thing - The thing they're mimicking was real, the former working class of Britain that talked like that, and then it sort of turns over into wannabe-black culture with the gold chains, the crappy music... Not sure where the vandalism fits in, though...

I don't get the tea stereotype. the Chinese have been tea drinkers for much longer than the English. ah well, there are worse stereotypes out there.

Tea is THE panacea for everything. Keeps you warm, comforts you, is the social thing.
It's so ingrained, that when my husband died, one of the first things the police did was to offer to make me a cup of tea!

Sadly the football part is true... England is nothing like the stereotypes of tea drinking posh old chaps who are jolly good sports and what not! The football is taken to a ridicoulouse level here though! I hate it... the image given about England from tv shows like taggart are very realistic! I see all the nutters going crazy about football, and I think that the world would be a better place if they would all just die. There are some ordinary peoplel who watch football, as a day out, or something to do with friends.... that's fine (if stupid) but the nutters with the knifes and the lead pipes clawing their way through the fences to get at the other sides supporters (often the ordinary people) like frenzied animals fill me with hate for them... and the sport! We don't have bad teeth either! (well mine aren't great) Dental care is free for under 18s in the UK so we have better teeth than alot of Europeans and Americans! As for the stiff upper lip... I dont smile as much as everyone else... but they are all smiling, or crying all the time etc.

The Irish are the worlds biggest tea drinkers, but it's not what you would think of as typically Irish.

Perhaps the English fondness for tea only seems kind of unique when you compare the English to people from mainland Europe, who tend to be more fond of coffee.
Or at least the French and Italians seem to be more fond of coffee.
(I admit I don't have any stats to back that up.)
