Yes, the forum is slow, but since I dont have the money to buy them a new server (or any money to donate), so I wont complain about it to much, plus, it would probably make more sense if I thought of suggestions to give instead

I'm on a 9 year old computer (old in web terms :)) and I'm not noticing any irreasonable slowness. It takes, like 4 or 5 seconds from when I click for a page to load. That's acceptable, and certainly not "slow as a snail". The times it takes longer are rare.

Now, I had a couple times recently when the message board didn't come up at all, but that's a different issue than being slow.

For me WP is often slower than a snail but is marginally faster than a somnolent amoeba on Prozac.
Pages load at the fastest in two or three seconds, but the norm is often 10 or more seconds. Sometimes longer than a minute; beyond that I usually give up and go to another site. It seems to depend on the time of day also.

I noticed that this website can run at a reasonable speed for about ten minutes, and then after that it becomes so slow that I don't have the patience to wait, at which time I go do other things and come back to this site a few minutes later, when it's not being so slow. It seems to be a cycle.

Depends on the time of day you come on. Late afternoon, EST, it slows down a lot for a few hours, then picks back up. It's all dependent on traffic. Donate lots of money so they can buy a new server, or, better yet, buy them a new server and donate it. It is what it is. It's a free site.

Same here. Oh well, there are plenty of websites to hold my interest while I wait. :D

I don't know if it's just me or the site is actually loading ultra faster than usual for about 10 minutes?

I don't know much about the costs, but the benefits of being on a Content Delivery Network. I think this would benefit a site like this that is world wide. Though I'm not sure it is within a good budget to be on one. I recommend Limelight Networks. Google uses Level 3 Communication, and youtube is the crappiest hit/miss site I have ever seen.

I also understand that having a large SQL database can cause problems. I'm not sure if a CDN would help with this other than to distribute data across several servers on a WAN.

Wrongplanet is already subscribed to Content Delivery Network.

Now that I think about it, I have just installed noscript on my firefox browser, and my browsing is no longer effected as much on here. It may be the other sites that you have to access first before WrongPlanet. It is showing technorati, quantserve, and scoreandresearch. Most websites will load these other things first before a lot of other content, and these other websites can take a very long time to load sometimes. While WrongPlanet was clogged today, it was only slightly slow and a few misloads here and there, far less worse than without the noscript plugin.

I notice there are new Facebook "like" bits at the bottom of thread pages now.

Based on past experience these damned "like" things really make page loading slow and annoying.

*hopes someone takes note*
