When someone tells me to say hi to someone else for them, and when I worked in a restaurant and was doing something and they told me what to do next; I would finish the first task and then think I was finished, completely forgetting the thing I was asked to do next.
I can identify with that as well.
My rote memory tends to be facts and such that others don't care about. Where it fails me is with practically anything social like birthdays, names and often times conversations. Quite often I have a very detailed memory for events like eating with a group of people; I can state where everyone sat, what table and other items of not-so-much importance.
