I've been lurking around from time to time, and finally decided to join.
It's debatable if I'll be able to contribute in a meaningful way, but hey, I can try.
So who's that guy anyway? I've noticed that it's customary to introduce oneself when landing on occupied foreign planets:
I'm a 21 year old guy from germany. Recently dropped out of university when I found I totally lacked the social skills necessary for productive teamwork. My past is clouded due to insufficiant brain capacity to store all information regarding it, but I remember taking great interest in computers, technology in general, reptiles, plants, and almost always avoiding contact with members of that annoying species which gave itself the name homo sapiens.
Other than that, I likes
books, my two girl water turtles who seem to like my fingers more than the food sticks I feed them, playing WoW (as my primary outlet for my need for social interaction - fortunately Teamspeak doesn't require one to interpret gestures or body language at all), cooking delicious stuff, my 13 year old bro and writing incomprehensible stuff.
On the downside, I don't like
raw wood (just hate the feel), summer (too much sun, too many pollen, too much skin on display), people who try to argue without the use of arguments, fashion, and confident ignorance,
I am not diagnosed yet, I have an appointment on the 26th of this month to hopefully get that over with. I tried to compensate or work around my inability to properly communicate face to face in the past, but have come to the conclusion that it'd be better to get in touch with the docs to find out what exactly is wrong with me. I do have a highly autistic cousin on the other side of the globe. He can't speak but that only makes him an even better companion.
Most severe problems that encouraged me to get a diagnosis:
- Clumsyness during my teenage years. I tried to get rid of that by forcing each motion of my body being a conscious one. Clumsyness is gone, but people sometimes comment on my moving style as unnatural or sometimes rigid. Also, I think I am very sensitive to touch, to the point I almost can't stand using public transportation.
- Absence of social network. I have noone I could call a friend in real life. Weird enough, as long as I am not forced to communicate face to face, I seem to be doing ok most of the time.
- As a result of the point above, loneliness. I mean, I like being by myself, and being physically close to another person, even family, makes me uncomfortable - but that doesn't change my need for social interaction.
- Also as a result of absence of a social network: Depression, to the point I seriously contemplated commiting suicide during a 3 week school trip to Italy when I was 17. Currently taking antidepressants, serotonin inhibitor thingies.
I kind of developed an old D&D character into a personification of my conscience - she should work on that screechy voice of hers a bit. I forked her original design and she is now also my main character in WoW. Complicated stuff.
So. Now to lurk some more.
