Did anyone one else mispronounce Connecticut when they first saw it? I first saw the word when I was in the third grade. It was imprinted on one of those collectors' coins. I pronounced it like connect-a-cut until one of my classmates corrected me. What is the state of Connecticut named after anyway? :?

How does one mispronounce a state? Are you referring to "Connecticut" which is a word?

I did the same thing with Maryland, expect I pronounced it "mary-land".

Like, when someone who hasn't heard of them see the state names 'Arkansas' and Kansas'.

(hehehehehe)

Also, the proper pronunciation of 'Hawaii' includes a glottal stop between the two 'i's.
