I am so tired of people who say one thing and do another. I have said before that I am a home improvement contractor and sometimes it embarassing how some of them lie and decive people giving us all a bad name. I carefully go over eveything with people so everybody knowns just what to expect only to be undercut by others with cheap prices but they dont include the extras then bill the people more than I was charging in the first place. It can be very frustating at times I give them and they ask for detailed contracts from me but take the words of other over the phone then get half the job done and the people want more money Why cant everyone just be up front about things?

I used to be very niave about this, but I have learned that there are some people who admire behavior such as deception and exploitation of others for personal gain. There are people who actually aspire or actively strive to be good at that sort of behavior. Such people hold a worldview that exploitation is the way the world works. I think it is becoming more common for people to think in such exploitive ways. I am not sure what is happening, but I suspect it has to do with an effort to survive in the so-called free market.

I am not so niave about this, I dont know how they can do these things and still feel good about themselves or sleep well. To me giving a good price for good workmanship is what its all about.

It sounds like a dab of psychopathy to me.

Well, some people might take the view that if it keeps themselves out of the welfare line it's perfectly acceptable to be exploitive of others. I know people who see such behavior as a practical means to survival in an increasingly competitive world. I think a good example of that kind of exploitive thinking is a local politican named David Emerson here in British Columbia. He was elected as a Liberal Minister of Parliament and almost the day after crossed the floor to join the Conservative party. Some people would admire him for this and say he had balls.

Personally, I think that kind of exploitation is disgusting. But those of us who would complain about such behavior seem to be becoming relics of a bygone era.

I don't think it really matters on the situation, dishonesty sucks end of. And I don't know why some people just can't be upfront about stuff, like in your situation, parts. I don't understand what people get out of telling inaccurate or false information to others. I don't think I could go to work every day and by dishonest with others on a regualr basis, I think this would kill me.
