I dont like to think about just how stuck I can get on a routine. Right now I should be working on a large addtion/renovation but the plug was pulled the last second by the home owner. That is what I had planed on for the next week but now there is nothing on my schedual and I dont transition to unplaned things well Its like I dont Know what to do there are things to do but not what i had intended so I sit here and type some days its just so hard to change gears and do something different than planned it drives me nuts

I've always been a slave to routine myself. I've gotten better at it over the years, but I can remember times where I actually considered passing up good opportunities because they would somehow interrupt my usual routine. It took me awhile to realize just how silly that once, and now I've gotten somewhat better at being spontaneous -- but I still have the occasional problem with it.

I have the same problem - when I got strep in January I only took one day off work - not because I got to feeling much better (I got a cortizone shot so my voice would come back) but because it just drives me crazy not to go to work . . . and it isn't like I like my job all that much (I like it better than prior jobs, but that is all I'm willing to say) it is just that it screws up my routine so much not to go to work . . .

Jesus, this is a pretty big problem of mine as well. I have a habit of getting an egg and cheese biscuit everyday from Bojangles, and if I don't get it... let's just say I get pretty pissed. Somedays I don't even feel that hungry, but it's such a big habit now I get it regardless of whether I actually even want it or not. It's a nasty cycle, and I'm trying to get rid of it so I can save some money for my car I'm about to recieve soon...

I have to stick to my routine, especially in the mornings. If my routine for the morning gets screwed up then the rest of that day is hell. Not to mention my mood

I'm like this. I always reconsider doing something when I know it will affect my routine. I even reconsider going on holidays/trips with friends because of it. I do get spontaneous but when it comes to the stuff in my routine it can't be switched.

This is me too. Oh sure, I love to take a day off now and then, but if I take too much time off I go stir crazy from not having enough to do! I think I'm the only person alive who intentionally never uses all his vacation time!

To give an example of what I mentioned earlier, I remember many years ago getting invited to go bowling one night. I hadn't had a social outing in years at that point and it sounded fun. I eventually did go, but not after agonizing for hours about how much it'd mess up my usual routine (that I'd been doing every single week for years...)

For me, it depends on the situation.

For example, if I'm in my room listening to my stereo or whatnot, and a friend of mine calls and asks me if I want to hang out at the mall with him or her, then I actually won't mind having my routine disrupted, whereas if the place I work at calls me in, then I might have a little mini-meltdown.

Also, when I was in grades 11-12, and my sister asked me to play with her while I was in the middle of listening to my stereo, I would tell her to go away, and then Mom would try to help us come up with a compromise (thank god she did not take sides!).

But if I have to change my routine at the last minute to, say, go bowling with a friend, or hang out at the mall, then, sure, it's worth it.

I was thinking about my thing about not calling into work - and it does screw up my routine - but I think also I have this paranoia that if I'm not at work or somewhere else I should be they will notice that I am quite replacable . . . so that is part of it, too - but mostly it screws up my routine . . .
