I know the stereotype is that guys with AS don't have emotion but I think I am too far in the other direction (especially with regards to anger). Anyone else here like that?

Yes, I have a short temper and can cry at the drop of a hat.
I try to keep my anger under control, by not giving away how angry I am by lashing out or yelling. But it's so very hard.

I don't think it's emotion so much as it is lack of empathy and reciprocity.

I tend to get reactive or upset whenever I'm offended or feel I'm put in a vulnerable position. It's as if I'm constantly on survival mode.

Its a common misconception that people with AS do not have emotions, its simply not true and the people on this site will be sure to tell you. :)

All people have emotions anyway - its chemical.

Yes and no. I think when I was younger I had the propensity to poorly manage emotions; now, I tend to be disconnected--but that's usually in terms of emotional reciprocity, not just emotions. Beyond that, I tend to manage them better these days with those exceptions where I simply melt down. My ex-wife used to say that during those times I just got to a point where I couldn't seem to talk or think or do much of anything.

Yes, I can be very emotional. I sometimes seem to come out with them, whether they are emotions of pleasure, discontent, or even the emotion of sudden speechlessness, quite effortlessly.

Right. I have emotions. I can even see others having emotions. I just cannot deal with my emotions or predict or respond to other's emotions in the "right" way. Except with certain members of my own tribe. So I go pokerface [until it breaks out all postal] and keep my mouth shut as if unsympathetic - self-protection.

I've learned to control my emotions (in some ways too well)... resulting in me "exploding" every once in awhile.

The males I know who have asperger's tend to be more prone to extreme emotions.
Rather than experience minor emotional shifts frequently, they tend to explode every now and then. I figured this had to do with having a difficult time managing emotions.
I know one male, diagnosed with autism, who does not "explode." However, he actually takes time to "stim off" the emotions that have built up. He does not stim all day, but he does when he is alone and it is a good enough way to manage emotions for him.
I do not know many other females with asperger's. I have some cousins who may have it but I do not spend enough time with them to know how emotionally expressive they are.

It should be noted that I am female... People do think I lack emotion. However, I have a very bad temper. I have taken to just leaving a room when I can tell I am going to get angry because I know if I don't I am going to scare someone.

My mom has told me that one of the greatest challenges of living with me is my mood swings, because they are fairly unpredictable.

My ex who was an aspie was very emotional. It was very easy to get him upset and make him cry. But he also took my words out of context and called it a social issue.

I used to be very emotional. Anything would put me in tears but I got over that. Even putting me on birth control helped and I wasn't so hurt easily. But I do good now even without them. Now it seems like I have too little. I can cry and yell and scream of course. It really shows when I am stressed out or having anxiety or meltdowns. Same as when I get pushed over the edge.

about certain things. I am not good at socially required displays of emotion but I feel things pretty intensely, more intensely it seems than alot of people

I used to be almost emotionless, and I worked to become more empathetic.

Now I'm hypersensitive and have trouble controlling my emotions.

I just can't win.

I get very emotional at times, but lately or rather recently, I haven't felt anything like that.

The only time when I feel emotional is when I feel very depressed about something that has happened in the past, but then I do try to prevent myself from thinking about those times, but sometimes, I just can't help it.

But sometimes it appears as if I'm emotionless but I just hide those feelings sometimes to not put myself into more shame and embarrassment as I was told everytime I would cry, it would be embarrassing and its just childish....

I don't know, but its just confusing. :(

I generally don't show emotion in public. I guess I kind of find it embarrassing to be emotional in front of all sorts of other people.
