Has anyone called you names just for being different?

To be honest, I had a thought of this in my head and I had this alot of the times in my lifetime...
I was even bullied when I was little when I was at the park and my brother said I was autistic, and the next thing you know, I was called names and it felt so horrible and they were mocking me anything because of being different and I wished I wasn't like that.

Right now, I just think to myself.... If they call you names, just gotta pretend its feeding you compliments  and get on with what i'm doing, hopefully its abit of information of anyone who is feeling like that way.

If you got any stories similar, feel free to share... everyone is welcome to. :)

Yes, even some of my own "friends" still make fun of me for not being able to catch onto things as quickly as they do.

Yes I never bought in to it though. I'm immune to ill willed comments.

An odd thing that happened when I was in 4th grade was that a guy commented on my freckles (which I didn't have many of), he called me freckleface or something like that (makes more sense in Swedish which is "prickig korv", a kind of sausage) and when I looked at him he himself had lots more freckles then I did. I just walked away thinking about what sense that made but I decided not to open Pandora's Box. That kid must have been really unhappy with himself.

Yes - 7th and 8th grade, a name linked to heavy teasing behaviorsfrom a group of girls one of whom I had previously kind of liked.

Oh yes, people tend to do bully other people because they tend to be jealous that they got what the bully hasn't got.

Also to bring them down below their levels and they don't feel good about themselves on top of that, it can get like that because I have been through it completely out of the blue.

There was a kid who for some reason came up to make started being really aggressive like i've done something but I haven't done anything to him and one day he started attacking me and kicking me to the floor and I remember started crying thinking why is he being like this?

Turned out he wasn't very happy with what he has going through his life and surprisingly enough he started being nice afterwards and he actually meant it aswell which people don't normally mean it, if they meant it, then they're just idiots in general..

I've been called names for being different, and I still do. I was called all kinds of names in school. I was called names in college. My friends and I call each other names, all the time. It's all in good fun.

People at my school said I was weird because I don't see the fun in making others feel bad.

People used to take my pencil case and belongings and I would strongly react to it, then, they would make fun of me for "being so paranoid". In grade 8 two people from my class stuffed pencil shavings down my back everyday. I think that anyone would react harshly to that and I don't think it is considered paranoid to get annoyed with stuff like that.

I was expecting the poll to register 100%. To be honest, I'd expect the same result from NT's voting on this question. Everybody is verbally abused at some point in their life. It could be for something as trivial as having freckles, or wearing glasses. Humans are a horrid species, we bully people.

I have, though it stopped in high school as I learnt how to better mask the stranger aspects of my personality, though I wasn't diagnosed until the latter end of 10th grade.

To expand on that:

"stupid"
"ret*d"
"in need of special help"
"gay"

It occured relentlessly when I was in school and often at home by my mother (who at the time didn't know I had AS and thought I was being 'annoying' on purpose).
