I never seem to be making the face I thought I was making...

I do look very odd in my photos. I couldn't exactly be accused of being photogenic anyway (not with my bulk!) but I do look somewhat odd and, well, not natural. I don't let it bother me too much though.

In 51 years, I have only ever seen two or three photos of me that don't look awful. It's why I do not allow anyone to take my picture now. I figure if that's what I really look like, I might as well wear a bag on my head.

And Rachel Lynn, you are eminently photogenic, because you are just all kinds of beautiful. Really!

Yeah. Even at about 10 years old I either looked angry or blank.
Around High School I stopped trying, and I discontinued smiling in my school pictures. I always look distant now. My ex-boyfriend's mother saw a picture of me in the school yearbook and said I looked like a "Deer caught in a car's headlights".
I don't mind though. I am not photogenic by any means. Heres a photo for you:

I think you took a lovely picture. You look "artsy" and "mysterious".

I don't like my pictures. I only have two looks, "big smile" and "no smile". The latter looks like a mug shot.

When I smiled for my grade school photos it looked like Sheldon's (from Big Bang Theory) attempts to smile.

there is a saying, "a face for radio and a voice for print." even when i was younger and prettier, i looked comparatively odd.

If I smile...yes. I look really odd and awkward.

My mother always said that you could tell I was autistic because of my expression in my elementry school pictures. She said it was because of the fake smile. With all the s**t the photographers gave me about how to sit, it's all I could do to fake a smile. By second grade, I quit smiling in my school pics all together and the camera people just gave up trying to make me. She also says I had a "blank" look in my eyes. Even in casual pictures taken at the zoo and Christmas people told me to smile. I can't smile for real on command. People telling me to smile just pisses me off and puts me in a bad mood. Why do people insist one must smile in pictures?

An ear for the visual topic

I look eerie, according to my kids. My youngest thinks I have an aspie stare.

I don't look odd but on my old school photos I couldn't fake a smile to save my life.

I hardly ever like photos of me that other people have taken. In the past I've taken photos of myself, and I've messed around with the lighting etc. to get everything just right, in my terms. I've been a lot happier with those photos, though I don't know if anybody else would notice much difference. I'm not photogenic, though I can look nice if the photo's taken right. I've no idea what criteria I use to judge......I just seem to know when it's a good one. I'm probably just applying my usual warped perfectionism. Other people seem to look more or less the same in different photos, but photos of me range from the sublime to the ridiculous, at least to my eyes.

This avatar at first seemed odd to me because it was a younger pic of me and my first ever avatar was just as odd with that scary glare on my face. Yet it seemed pretty funny to me.

I dont believe a good picture of myself has ever existed. This is because I squint in just about every picture of me and I can't smile naturally and I have way too chubby cheeks.

There's a picture of me with my sister at her college graduation where my face looks makes it look like I have Down Syndrome...sitting in my parents' living room for EVERYONE to see! 8O
