For some reason I can no longer stand the sound of my wife typing on her laptop. I used to never ever notice her typing before. Then one day she took on a transcription job in which she typed up some guy's manuscript for a novel. She was typing hard and loud for a few days nonstop. Now I can't stand the keyboard. It's like she made me notice it or something. All I can do anymore is wear earplugs. I spend all day at my job with headphones in my ears, nervous and avoiding sounds because of how a few of my coworkers speak. Now I can have to come home and face this. My wife either gets angry or upset whenever I mention how it's making me feel. I don't think she really understands. She went into another room tonight and I could still hear her banging away. I went to close to door and told her that I spend all day anxious and worried and I didn't want to have to deal with it at home either. She started crying. I wasn't yelling or anything, or acting angry. I just feel like she's getting fed up with me. Is there anything I can do to make me not notice the keyboard again? I don't want to have to plug my ears at home too. Sorry for the rant.

Welcome to WrongPlanet ... and I sometimes have the same kind of problem with certain noises coming from my wife ... and it really burns me when she takes popcorn from my bowl and stands there eating it and even dropping some on the floor!

Knowing you are not alone does not solve the problem, but at least now you know you are not alone.

How realistic would it be to get a quieter keyboard? (You should be able to just plug in a USB keyboard to the laptop and it should just work.) Here's a $15 keyboard with some reviews claiming that it's relatively quiet:

She just got one of those new Mac keyboards. I'm wondering if she thought it would be more quiet though she didn't say anything to me about it.

It's what caused the issue tonight. I feel like I can't bear to hear a keyboard at all. I literally get to shaking after awhile.
