My name is Nathan, I'm 14 years old. I was professionally diagnosed for AS in late 2009 I think. I enjoy listening and playing music. I play flute, piano and trying to learn guitar. I really enjoy math and the hands on stuff science, like experiments, as long as I don't have to write my observations and all that boring stuff. I hate English although I love correcting people in their grammar.

My mother (Works to get disabled people of all kinds, get jobs) sort of figured there has been something different with me since I was fairly little, she assumed ADD so I always just thought I had ADD, there wasn't much wrong with that. A large population of people have it so I was alright. Later on they found out my dad had AS, then my mother thought I might too. I am similar to my dad, toss in the fact it's genetic and there we have it, I was to be tested for AS. I was in denial for a while thinking, I am stupid, then I found out a bit more like how Aspies aren't stupid! So I started looking it up a bit and eventually agreed. Got diagnosed and here I am today.

Just yesterday I started to be more interested in what AS really is, so I took a few tests, found out some of the things I do are related. Like walking on my toes, talking to myself, running through something before it happens. Then I decided to find a forum for others like me. I don't want to be like everyone else, I want everyone else to be like me.

So other obsessions I have: Computer, spend almost all my time with it, Video Games, hanging out with a very select few of people. (Few as in 2)

I predict that you will come to enjoy writing when you feel the need to communicate to others thoughts you have in your mind about something you are passionate about.

I became passionate about the highways and transportation aspects of town and country planning and real estate management and architecture from studying the life and work of the British architect, John Nash, as part of a History of Art and Design course at grammar school. I found that Nash used 'ogee curves' pirated from Hindu architecture to design the horizontal and vertical alignments for a replacement road bridge over a strip of land that was subject to 'pore pressure' due to a geological fault, and I obsessed for about a year about the mathematics of those curves, after having a head injury at school.

And I have been able to make a career of writing about that passion, because hardly anyone thinks of the highways and transportation aspects of town and country planning and real estate management and architecture when, for example, preparing a planning application for development or a business case for a regeneration project.

As a child, I loved music, and won a scholarship in pianoforte, but was unable to take up the place I was offered at college as my chronic disabilities include life-threatening asthma attacks. But I was able to transfer that love of music to a love of mathematical harmony in land use, transport and socio-economic development models conceived in my head from base-line data. That was how I got my first significant work assignment - helping to devise an infrastructure development masterplan for transfer of the Royal Mint from London to South Wales - when I was about 17 years old.

So I wish you a productive and satisfying future, being paid good money to do what you love doing. Having Asperger's can have advantages if you can find ways of turning your special gifts into economic resources!

On my Piano I play anything I can get my hands on. Currently working on 'Let it Rock.' Now on my flute, I enjoy playing blues music, but if I can get my hands on it I play it, and with the guitar I play scales because I am not good enough to play anything else.
