Neuro-physiological interruption was a term first coined in 1995 by Leonora Gregory-Collura to better explain meltdowns.
I thought that maybe some people would prefer the term seeing how the media is twisting the real meaning of a meltdown - there was a thread posted about it a few weeks ago.

Here is a video of young autistic people describing their NPI's.

I think I'd still use the word meltdown among the autistic community but in my blogs might start calling them neuro-physiological interruption (NPI).

It's a very accurate name, it describes exactly how it feels, like someone turned off the switch

Thank You Pensieve. I prefer the use of Neuro- Physiological Interruption, NPI over meltdowns.
