By active, I mean users who use the site on a frequent basis, and those who sign up and make posts. It would be nice to know how many of the 33,000 + members actually use the site on a regular basis. Also the 'online now' count would probably make more sense if we knew a general number of who is 'active'. So is there any way of knowing?

I did the math on the above thread. Approximately 4,000 active users (though almost half of all accounts do have at least two posts) using the projections I used; it may be quite different. Alex has never provided usage statistics that I have seen.

I'd guess the 33,000 is the number of people who have signed up for accounts at one time or other rather than being a valid indication of how many active members remain. I've seen a lot of members come and go over the last two years. Active for a few months then gone, only a few of which eventually return.

Slightly OT: I was a member of one forum that claimed 50,000 members. However, the mods got very restrictive and it got to the point they were deleting around half of peoples posts for various idiotic reasons. Most members just left. The last time I looked they were still claiming around 50,000 members, but looking at their boards I thing the number of active members was around 10. Probably 9 of them being mods.

Would you count me as an active member makuranososhi?

I'm one of the active members here. I make 100 posts every five days. I counted.

I'm also an active member, I doubt that there are even 4000 active, though it does depend on your definition of active, I tend to see a core group of people who post with a few others who chime in when they have something to say, and then those who post once or twice a month and so on.

Which is why we defined an active member as one who had at least 2 posts to their credit; we could further refine the numbers to your own specifications using the process I outlined in the other thread, so you can reach your own projections. I agree that people get involved to different levels, but to disregard them is imposing one limited definition for what is an active member... and I prefer to be more encompassing.

I suppose I am an active member; I come all day and all night, although I only post in spurts, and only when I'm feeling expressive.

This is such a moment.

Member Activity topic

«if this was a paying site (like one I am currently subscribed to) there would be posts everyday. You want to get your money`s worth.

But the joy of posting here is priceless. 8)
