I'm 14 years old at the moment. Lately everything is getting worse. I'm more sensitive to sound and touch than normal (which was already sensitive). I hate crowds more. When I hear lots of noises at once I just want to run away and scream. I'm just asking if this kind of thing is normal in people with Aspergers or not.

It is a common thing for a lot of people with Aspergers. I have the same thing, I'm pretty sensitive to sound and light, and I absolutely cannot tolerate large groups of people.

I've started hating crowds more, around the age of 14. There were enough around my school, that's for sure, and they were made up of kids, who were full of themselves.

I must have been about 12 when crowds and sensory things started to bother me a lot more, and as the older I get, the more I hate it, but I'm also better at dealing with it.

It happened to me around that age too.

I guess puberty causes a few things in us to happen.

Common for Aspies, yes. And don't forget, our Aspie traits, like our personalities, go through phases.

Perfectly normal.

It's a good idea to talk about changes in how you are coping with things to your doctor, counsellor and to your family. These things do change over time, and it is always valuable for the people you rely on to know if your needs are changing.

I've had similar things; things getting worse. A psychologist told me that as we get more stressed we get more autistic. Adolescence is very stressful.

Thanks everyone. I was worried it was just me and that everything getting worse was something really weird. Then again now i think back its actually been happening all my life. Like when I was 3 none of these things bothered me, crowds, loud noises, lots of different noises at once, chalk. Hell I used to love chalk. Then one day I just grew sensitive to it. Whenever I hear it or feel it (and now even see it!) it's as though I can taste it. Glad to see its not just me.

Also visagrant I can't really talk to anyone. Thhe psychologist thinks everything is fine so isn't seeing me, I don't have a regular doctor and most of my family don't believe I have it, except for my mother but she's the last person I'd trust. Long story.

Loud sounds make me nervous and anxious.

Ten or even five years ago, I felt a lot less anti-social and annoyed with society in general. I think a factor of becoming more aware of what's going on, getting tired of what's going on, having to do more work, and other stuff is why getting older actually makes things feel worse. Heck, even two years ago I felt a lot less angry, but at this rate, I can only wonder just how far things will go unless something changes for the better soon. At one point I could somehow stand the noisy kids in school, but within a matter of months, I could barely stand to go anymore. Normal or not, I doubt I can even figure out much what's normal and abnormal anymore in many subjects.
