My city is pulsating with bubble tea restaurants.

At first I thought the idea of a tea or slush with "pearls" or "jellies" (these are jellied/tapioca type textured bits that are added to the tea or slush) was peculiar. I also thought that paying approximately $3.50 for a drink without alcohol was a bit much.

However, I tried a slush a few months ago and have since tried approximately 5 different bubble tea places.

So far, my favourite flavour is mango. I like it made with fresh fruit. If fresh fruit is not available, a high quality powder will do in a pinch. I like milk added, the ice ground very fine and I like one particular places mango jelly added.

My kids also really like bubble tea. They also like mango slush, but I don't add pearls or jellies to their drinks due to potential choking harzards.

Does anyone else like bubble tea?

Some of the better places also serve "shaved ice" with all kinds of interesting jellies and puddings to add. Has anyone tried shaved ice. What do you recommend?

We have two that I'm aware of around here, and I've only been to one of them. At Bethany's, the slush I really love the best is the honeydew melon slush. Other than that, I basically always get the Japanese green milk tea (where the "Japanese green tea" is just extra strong green tea) with the tapioca bubbles, or "boba", as they call it and actually write it out. I love it.

a minority opinion here, but i can't stand anything in my liquids which interferes with their purely uniform smoothness.

My husband is the same way. He doesn't like any jelly or texture in his drinks.

My favorite flavor would definately be the Green (Sour) Mango bubble tea. --It's best on a hot day.

sounds like a good man.
to clarify: i can handle thick drinks as well as they are uniformly thick with no denser spots with the exception of whipped cream or something similar. but no tapioca balls.

I've had bubble tea a few times. Green tea and some fruit flavor one.

Don't really know if I like them. The jelly things have an odd texture to them to me and honestly just kind of get in the way of enjoying the beverage.

It's kind of like a smoothie with jelly bean like things in them. They usually come with a straw big enough to suck up the jelly bits.

Calling it tea is a bit misleading.

I love bubble tea! I used to live near enough to a bubble tea shop that I could walk my dog there. I'd sit outside and spit tapioca pearls at him through the straw and he'd catch them in his mouth. Well, actually, most of the time they would bounce off his head and then he'd eat them, but we still had a great time!

My favorite flavors are taro and black tea.
