Okay, so, none of you know me much yet, but you will learn that I like detail.
I feel like I could be called a constantly failing, procrastinator perfectionist.

When I feel the need, I can type and type and type.

I don't like to leave anything out and I may repeat myself.

So, as there are many similar people on here, I ask.........why the hell is this the case?
Also, I realised that I like to have a neat and tidy post but sometimes I can't be bothered.
I may edit a post 2 or 3 x depending on length and complexity.

Absolutely. That's totally like me. I would go on, but I have stuff to do and once I get started on anything, I usually find it difficult to stop, so I'll stop now.

I think it's because you have ADHD or ASD or both.

The full reason why is probably quite complicated. I think we tend to be hyper sensitive to environmental stimulus. We can't ignore details. It's like every tiny thing is as important as anything and everything else, and needs to be fully processed in a conscious way.

I have a habit of going on and on, as well.

I hate going on and on and on unless it was a certain rant or something I'm very logical about like this topic I could say, I could go on and on and on about whatever I go on and on and on about.

When it comes to gaming, I could possibly go on and on and on.

Computers, I go on and on and on.

But typing at college, occasionally I have to push myself in many ways to actually go on and on... (hopefully next years one is much better)?

Its normal for people with AS to keep very quiet when they have nothing of great import to say.

On the other hand, when we do have something we feel is important enough to talk about, we tend to be outright compulsive about saying everything there is that can possible be said about the subject, leaving no stone unturned and re-explaining at length just to be sure whomever is listening knows exactly what we're talking about and doesn't misunderstand or forget anything. Since the subject (whatever it is) is that important to us, we assume the listener will be equally as fascinated with this information.

Usually not.

I feel like my thoughts on a particular subject are coming so quickly that if I don't get them all out I'll completely forget what I was saying. This happens both with typing (like here) and IRL, although here I can edit myself if I think I've gotten repetitive. IRL, once it's said, it's said, sometimes much to the annoyance of others.

So I "chatter" too. Usually I realize I'm doing it but just can't stop. I need to work on that.

(I suppose this makes my signature a trifle ironic. )

.......... :) .......but why? does anyone know why?

I remember that someone with almost 99% ADHD-H, said that dopamine connected drugs, in his case cannabis, reduced his trait of too much mind chatter actually being released into the real world... ie excess mental thoughts, that probably should be kept under neural lock and key. Maybe it would be known in the old days as talking to yourself?

Anyway, I do a lot of talking to myself, but not if I'm under observation.

Still it does not explain why this happens? I know that I have to talk quickly because otherwise it fades away and I forget.

The movie never ends. It goes on, and on, and on, and on.

I think it is the inability to filter and sort information.

To explain something properly to someone else you need to understand what they already know, what they want to know and what they find interesting or important. Then be able to filter the information you have into the information that they need.

I don't know any of these things about the other person, so I give them every single piece I have about the subject, in a sort of rapid fire approach. When they do get a chance to respond, they usually make it clear that they have failed to understand, so the logical thing is to apply more information.
