Who likes stereos?

To start off, I love stereos, and I especially love exaggerated bass when listening to music. I am also picky about how the mids and highs sound as well.

Is this supposed to be how much your stereo's worth, or how much you've spent on it???

I've picked up most of my stereo gear, which is professional sound equipment, like Mackie, JBL, EAW, and such for little to nothing. Some of it is B-stock inventory from work. Customers have also given me equpment, or offered it to me at extra low price, or as trade-in when they upgraded to bigger/better equpment.

For my subwoofer, I've got one of those Cerwinn-Vega folded horns. For mains, I have a set of 4 JBL full range with horn midrange...similar to what a movie theater uses. It's all being powered by 2 EAW, and 2 Mackie power amps, for a grand total of about 3600 watts (!) It all runs through a Mackie 16 channel mixing board. There's some other fun stuff in the system too, like a subharmonic synthesizer by dbx (it divides the frequency of a bass wave in half...making it deeper)

Obviously, this system barely even gets running when using it in my home! This stuff is also used when I do sound for a local metal band. They'll clean the cobwebs out the cabinets for sure!

I also have a "little" system in my bedroom that uses a set of vintage Magneplanar speakers connected to my Father's old Fisher tube amp....Dad gave me all that gear!

OK. AV-Geek: out. You're embarrasing us with how good your system is. So I, in turn, will embarrass you with how cheap my bedroom system is:

Harman Kardon PM645 integrated amp: $1.25
Tascam 133 professional cassette deck: $1.25
Realistic Minimus-25 speakers: $6 (for the pair)
Lafayette T-4000 turntable: freebie
Denon equipment stand: freebie

Total cost: $8.50

For reference: I've read that the amp can fetch $80. The tape deck has been seen on eBay for $249, and the rack ears alone can go for $30 a pair.

The living room setup was a little more since the main patrs were new: Boston speakers and a Denon receiver, mainly. Guest starring in that setup is a mint-condition '80s-vintage Denon cassette deck and a Pioneer PL-518 direct-drive turntable I got for $15 at a thrift store. Friends were over last week and while a record was playing one of them said, "The sound is phenomenal." I'm flattered.
