Today I read an article on a Dutch news site NU.NL: Hersenscan kan tot ideale baan leiden.

I was a bit disturbed by it. It is about the use of brain scans while doing activities to see if someone has the right abilities for a certain career. Since people with autism use their brains differently it could be a serious threat. Of course it will take some years, but still...

To be certain I looked up an English language article Telegraph: Brain scans may help career choices
and looked the article up: BMC Research notes: Gray matter correlates of cognitive ability tests used for vocational guidance
And finished with looking for the author in PubMed

It looks serious enough. Would revealing your autism in advance be necessary and what will the impact on chances for a job be.

Probably it will take some years and be really expensive, but still...

Could be a boon too. Autism affects our ability to get jobs and stay in them anyway. It would be nice for a machine to diagnose my abilities and put me in a career I can succeed in, instead of flailing around trying to find something I'm suited for. It would be handy to be able to walk into Mcdonald's, and instead of going through the rigmarole of interviewing, getting the job, finding you can't do the work fast enough and getting sacked, you could just whizz through a machine and find out. Save a lot of hassle.

Or the scan indicates that you are the ideal candidate , but you are in reality not fit for the job.

As with much of technology, it's a double edged sword.

Do you use it for helping people picking the right career track out of those that the person is interested in pursuing, or do you use it for controlling people by denying them entry into careers they may not have a natural talent for, but a strong desire to do nonetheless?

One more unnecessary thing, that will put us into little boxes.

I don't care what anyone says, I'm going to be a veterinarian: spefically a meerkat and reptile specialist. I'm used to people telling me no and that I can't for all sorts of BS reasons.
