I am glad you made this thread. I was also embarrassed to tell my mom about WP, and I felt bad about it as well.

I think it's pretty simple--you just couldn't figure out, on the spot, how to explain it to her; so you couldn't get started. I have that problem; only when I can't figure it out, I revert back to pattern-matching and make something up instead, something that fits into the conversation...The stupid thing about it is that, until I've thought about it for a while, I don't realize that I said something I didn't intend to communicate.

8O I never understood why I do this! Thank you, Callista!

One time, when Aspie Affection, was all the rage, my mum was standing over my shoulder, asking what I was doing, on a dating site, because she saw the ad, for Aspie Affection, on the top of the page. I was at her place, and I asked her to drive me home. That was four years, ago.

I don't understand how people manage to rack up thousands of posts in the space of a few weeks. Are PMs counted in the total?

We all need places where we can go to "be" and to explore ideas/things/etc without worrying about the reactions of specific other people...

Hmmm. I wonder if your mom would be really happy to know you doing something that involves connecting with other people.

At first I didn't mention WP to my mum, I was kind of embarrassed. Then when I mentioned posts I had read I just said "on a forum I go on" without any indication of the theme of the site.
It wasn't until maybe late last year when I called it wrongplanet and told my mum what the site was about.
