ttp://www.livingwithaspergers.com/types ... rgers.html

So this isn't set in stone, of course, but I do think there's some truth to it. I feel like a lot of women on this forum may be the emotional type of Aspies or at least lean that way.

I feel kind of bad because I thought I would fit in better with Aspie women than NT women but I almost fit in with the NT women better and almost PERFECTLY with NT/aspie men.

I'm definitely the logical type. I mean, I have no diagnosis but that IS my personality and always has been, I'm not stone cold and I do show emotions when I can see that it's necessary but I have no real value for them in my life and have virtually no emotional influence over most of the decisions that I make.

Where do you think you fit in?

I think the list is too stupid to even worth a topic over. I think if anything we should come up with better categories. I see myself in nearly all of them, they are incredibly vague.

Well, sorry for being such a piece of s**t lol.

They don't even have official subtypes yet. It's going to take time, I think a lot of people will see some of themselves in all of the categories but it's more about which one you fit into the most.

If you don't fit into one that's normal too, there could be a mixed type.

I think the topic of having different "sub-types" of aspergers is really valuable. It feels to me that it is almost an all or nothing thing.... you have aspergers or not... or maybe if you are lucky you get "asperger traits" instead of nothing. There seems to be so much diversity within "aspergers" it is hard to believe that we all have the same "disorder".

I doubt there will ever be official subtypes. Right now they are consolidating the diagnoses into one autism label, not making them more distinct. If anything we will just be separated by functioning levels.

But I have always been interested in making subtypes, especially for Asperger's. My mother got a book about Asperger's from the library that subtyped them much more efficiently than the above website does (Parenting Your Asperger Child: Individualized Solutions for Teaching Your Child Practical Skills.) It should be noted that I think these were for children, but next time I'm at the library I'll write them down. I'm sure it'll be of interest to more than just me.

I wonder if subcategories like these "logical" "emotional" etc. would aid more in helping people with Asperger's (help based on the type) than using functioning levels that could possibly be a lot more subjective.

Yeeeeah, I see a bit of myself in each of these. I fit more of the emotional type than the rest though. *shrug*

I'm very logical, not very emotion. I have the common sense of a woman and the thought process more similar to that of a male.

I have my own opinions about the differences between those who idenity themselves emotional (bad) and those who identify themselves as being "logical"...unemotional (good). I think our range of personalities is much more broader than that.

As for the link I identify with pretty much all the categories though I consider myself to be emotional yet at the same time detached. I'm a sensative person when it comes to certain subjects like animal cruelty and human cruelty but I have trouble getting emotional about weddings and life-chaning events, I can't even hug, cry, hold hands or express an emotional element of empathy with people on an individual level. I really envy people who can....
