Is it better to just keep trying to be social, to go through the energy and effort to try and figure out the every day complexity of dealing with people, the pain of making social mistakes.

Or is it better to just give up trying to be social, to be "normal" and to just stop caring and do what ever is easiest for me.

I am debating whether or not to just stop trying. I am wondering if I'll regret just stop going out and being social, or will I be more productive, more happy.

i stopped, Makes me very happy. My friends are my Real friends, My family loves me. I feel sucessful most of the time. I wish I would have stopped trying years ago. Its alot harder then you would think, sometimes I still go on the olde autopilot, and get very drained from having to socialize with people I have nothing to talk about with. But its amazing to be living a true life, one which I'm not being forced to pretend I'm someone I'm not. Of course, you always have to be at constant work with yourself. But in the end, nothing has made me happier, and I highly recomend it.

I am happier not trying to fit in where I just don't.

How social are you keeping things at the moment?
Maybe you can consider scaling things back rather than just stepping out of the game.

It is very hard to get motivated too step back in, once you've left. And in my case, at least, that's going to cause a big bump at the end of the year - and with my history of doing things on time, I'm in trouble. (For me stepping back meant not looking for another job for the moment.)
